AMD Crimson Driver Downclock GPU thru PowerEfficiency
« on: July 11, 2016, 05:29:52 PM »
Hi All,

I recently reloaded AHII back on my box after a recent reload of Win 7 due to issues arising from a UEFI reflash. I had the AMD Crimson 16.7.1 driver set up to use Power Efficiency in Global Settings. I have also set up my Logitech G15 gaming keyboard to show my vid card's GPU temp, GPU clocks, mem clocks & FPS thru MSI Afterburner so that I can see all this while I'm gaming on my keyboard's display.

Went in game and while I was sitting on the runway the GPU was clocking at 1050 w\ FPS at 80 FPS (AMD FRTC set). Went up flying and within 10 mins of flying I saw the GPU clocks drop to 450-650 range and the FPS tanked into the low 40-mid 50 FPS w\ stuttering galore but once the GPU clocks got back up above the 700 threshold all straightened out and FPS went back up to the 79-80 range smooth. Saw this cycle several times during this flight so I bailed, went out of the game and opened Radeon Settings and turned Power Efficiency off then went back in and back up....this time the GPU clocks stayed pegged at 1050 pretty much the entire time along w\ the FPS @ 79-80 smooth so this setting is affecting AHII performance as well as the Beta Dx11 version.....even though I have all maxed out except EM and using the hi res pack at 1024 and AA set to Most in AHII.

Interesting.................. ....

Just sent in an Issue Request to AMD to see if they would add a setting in any game profiles created in Radeon Settings to automatically turn this feature off when the game is executed then automatically turn this feature back on when the game is exited back to desktop.

We'll see what happens...................... .
