Fleet commander selects formation
« on: July 26, 2016, 12:03:20 AM »
A lot of fuss to improve navy play lately. My wish (I think) is simple. Allow the fleet commander to click drag ships or select formations via clip board to optimize battle effectiveness. I rather have my Iowa fleet in a straighter or staggered formation. I say staggered because one of you will end saying You will be able to buff bomb the entire fleet in one pass if it's in a "straight" and not "staggered" formation.

Anyways it would be nice to get in a full broadside from every ship and their cannons if going on the offensive with the Iowa fleet. Or if my carrier fleet was going to be under attack from a Iowa formation I would want to line my ships up and block my carrier using the cruiser and put my remaining destroyers in line with my cruiser to achieve a full broadside against every enemy ship in order to properly defend my carrier from a naval attack. If it's a carrier vs carrier fleet the call is yours. You could have the option to use the current formation to impede the buffs and enemy carrier planes then select a defensive broadside line once in cannon range. Food for thought guys I think it would be effective.  :salute

This will make ch200 an interesting place to watch each time a new admiral bumps an old one with a lower score. Or just being on one of the ships in the task force as it morphs like a spastic ameba back and forth between arm chair admirals. Like when 4 of you hit the tower taking off on the CV because another admiral decided to take over the CV fleet.

Someone should wish for the CV to signal pilots that the CV is in a turn or holding straight when they spawn on the deck.

I like that idea and even without my wish should be implemented. But our fleet should be able to maneuver.

It will be worth an armchair and popcorn to read ch200. The task force is already funny as spastic puppies when the arm chair admirals get going and kill their own fighter pilots. This will be no different.

So killing your carrier isn't worse?  :headscratch:

You are being obtuse on purpose. They kill the carrier by fighting over it most every time. While the whizzing match goes on between them someone like semp rolls in with bombers and make their whizzing contest moot. And they made the CV an easy target whizzing on each other. No amount of meaning well or thinking it matters ever saves the CV.

I don't think bustr likes any wishes for the Navy aspect of the game.

A LSO would be nice. Aces of the Pacific had a nice system for the LSO on landing. A little window would pop up in the upper left corner of the screen when your gear and flaps came down and you were approaching the CV from astern, showing the LSO with his paddles. Too high above the glide slope, and the paddles would be up above his shoulders; too low, below the shoulders; wings not level would result in paddles adjusted to show which wing is low and which was high. For take-off, a simple red-light/green-light at the bow would be good, showing if the ship was turning or not. Not exactly historical, but certainly helpful. Obviously your compass (or looking up and out) will also give you a warning, but lights would still be nice.

Oh...and player controlled destroyers  :neener:

-1 to player controlled ships and the single click to evade that has been brought up recently....both are too easy to grief.

Higher rank controls the CV....been that way forever, very sdimple efficient system....if people whine about that they are digging deep for something to whine about.
