Voice problems

Hi, I'm getting back into the game after a few years hiatus.  My question is I have had throat and mouth surgery from cancer and can't talk well anymore. To be understood i have to go real slow.  Is it possible to be a squad member in the game with this handicap? Thanks for your input

YES IT IS! I only have one arm, and I can't reach the mic switch half the time anyway so you shouldn't have any problem. You'll do all your talking with your guns. Everybody understands that. So join in and have some fun.

Text works just fine on green and purple text.  Use it and have a great time!

I don't hear real well and often tune people out in mid conversation, sometimes even by accident. 
I think we could make a great team.   


Seriously, If you can't find anyone normal to hang out with in game, shoot me a PM and we can overcome our communication obstacles together.

Absolutely. If you need to send somebody a check 6 call, you can look at them and hit the ( ' ) key next to enter real quick instead of calling it up over a mic. Mics are totally unnecessary, for the most part.

listen and learn to text.  maping the check 6 button to your joystick will help you reach out to help others in need.  Texting yes and no will help your leader know you understand.  the long sentences for intel or warnings will be hard, just remember piloting your plane comes first.

 

oh and tune squad vox to voice and a text box.  use the appropriate channel when texting. green is country wide,  purple is local range, and yellow is tuned channel specific with 2xx being game wide and 1xx being only used by your own county.

When my squad gets together on Friday night for ops the only way to "heard" IS through text!  I have to admit the vox is funny as h@ll, but a bit tough to get any instruction through. 

Were on Rooks, and tune to 147 both vox and text. We have a good number of players who join in on channel. The old CO use to call us "Social Butterflies"

There are several good players that listen but never reply by Vox.  Some can not.   Some are not comfortable with their accent as another example.  Never heard a single complaint by any player.

Keep in mind, you might get asked a question on vox twice or maybe even three times just because the player was not sure you heard him or her.  Once people know you will text when you can, you will not have that problem.

Back in the Good Old Days, in Air Warrior -- before vox -- players would often map text macros to controller keys:  "OTW", "cc", "help", etc.
I don't think there is a way to use AH to make text macros, but some controller software will do it.  In any case, just using text will work fine.
