If you grew up in the rockies..
« on: August 26, 2016, 05:41:44 PM »
You probably encountered one of these from time to time. The Wandering Garter snake. Not the lame black with yellow/orange stripe garter snakes you find down by the lake in gaggles, but the cool looking ones you'd find solitary up in the pine trees and shizzle. Well it turns out they're totally bah dass! A terrestrial, aquatic and subaquatic predator. I was looking on the interweb, as you do, and I found this awesome video. I never even knew what they were called before, but I knew they were the more rare, cooler kind that I used to find as a kid. The secret life of the Thamnophis elegans vagrans, or the wandering garter snake.

I would kill every snake i see,  many of my last incarnations ended short by snakes and reptiles. I have this phobia, irational but instinctive born fear  printed on my DNA, maybe something actually happened in the Garden of Edens is not just a myth;

"“Cursed are you above all livestock
    and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
    and you will eat dust
    all the days of your life.
And I will put enmity
    between you and the woman,
    and between your offspring and hers;
he will crush your head,
    and you will strike his heel.”

My family only killed venomous snakes.  Nonvenomous snakes killed mice and rats that would try to get in our barn, garage, and house.  We also kept a barn cat around as a mouser too.

Humans and chimpanzees (not sure about the other apes) do have an instinctual fear of snakes.  Humans specifically are scared of snakes and spiders.  Of course not everyone is in this category.  I'm not scared of snakes, but I have a disliking of spiders.
Currently ignoring Vraciu as he is a whoopeeed retard.

It would be intresting to see the DNA test from each catch.  Be there are sub-species or gene mutation.

I never understood the killing of non-venomous snakes and never will.   Regardless of the excuse given.

I have a coach gun in 12-gauge specifically for any snake, and I have a literal ton of ammo. No need to waste time identifying the rascals, just send them where they belong and be done with it. Too many bad snakes for every good one, if there even is such a thing as a good one. I'm sure whatever purpose snakes serve there is something else that can take their place.

Wandering Garter snake is venomous, something else I didn't know about it.

This would be my weapon of choice:

"Then out spake brave Horatius, the Captain of the gate:
 To every man upon this earth, death cometh soon or late.
 And how can man die better, than facing fearful odds.
 For the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods."
