mic issues in beta
« on: August 28, 2016, 09:09:22 PM »
I figured I'd start a thread here because I'm not sure it really qualifies as a "bug," but the same exact voice/sound settings that I have in AH2 (where my mic works fine) do not work for AH3.  I have tweaked the ingame settings as much as I can think of, have tried selecting the different options, and nothing seems to work.  I'm at a loss here.  I have an inexpensive turtle beach usb headset.

I'm attaching my dxdiag and a screen shot of my sound settings.  Moving it from "realtek" to the actual headset does not work (and was not necessary in AH2, anyway).

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

First, using Realtek for your mic won't work. It has to be Turtle Beach on that line. The Realtek mic works through the red jack either in your back or front panel whereas your headset uses USB. Check that setting in your Windows recording settings, too. It has to be Turtle Beach there, too, since you've chosen the Windows speaker configuration.

You also seem to have the Nvidia audio drivers installed and active. If you don't use HDMI audio, remove the drivers and disable it in your Device Manager.

Also, as per Skuzzy's advice here set the left pane all to Headset.

Hi Bizman,

Thank you for your reply. I played around with it a bit before work. I don't understand why, but realtek works for AH2 for whatever reason.

Anyway, the only thing I didn't do (because I'm not tech savvy and don't know if I use HDMI audio when the headset is off) was uninstall the driver. I just disabled it. Does that matter?

Anyway, I went to check on windows (finding it on 10 isn't easy) and turtle beach is selected with showing no errors, but when I go to test it, there is no output. I didn't have time to test and see if AH2 still hears it.

I wonder if just getting a better headset with 3.5 Jacks would fix this as I really don't like mine comfort wise. I don't want to spend $150 on a comfortable  set to find it doesn't work though.

I guess I'll play around with it later and see if I can figure out why windows is recognizing it but it isn't working (it's not muted, btw).

Thank you for your help!

Disabling the HDMI audio is a good start. At least it prevents your system trying to use it.

Sometimes a $15 headset can be more comfortable than a $150 one. And even reproduce decent game sounds. Often not, but you never know before trying.

Well, I got it to work.  I don't know why, given that it's USB, but for whatever reason windows wasn't picking up on the turtle beach one and would only pick up on the realtek one, so once I set the microphone in windows to realtek, it worked in Aces High III.

What is weird (to me) is that now, in AH2, it only works if I switch my mic/voice to realtek. If it is on turtle beach it does not work.
In AH3, it works now regardless of if it was on turtle beach or realtek.

This used to be swapped, with it working on AH2 but not AH3.

"whatever" - it works now.

Thank you for your help Bizman as your explanation did key me in on what needed to happen (having windows and the game in sync with each other).
