Last weekend of AHII
« on: September 18, 2016, 03:47:16 PM »
HiTech all, it may be too late, but if this is the last day of AHII, why are there there restrictions on aircraft and vehicles?  If it's the last weekend of AHII, why aren't all of the aircraft and vesicles "free" in AHII?

Also, is there any way that AHII can continue .... in any way... Head 2 Head or otherwise?  When we went from AHI to AHII there were some great maps that disappeared.  Is there any way, you can continue with a "legacy" arena?  Perhaps at 25% of the cost of the "current" subscription?  Subscription full includes all, legacy only includes old games?

There are a lot of maps and a lot of challenges in old versions of the game that were so enjoyable.  it would be a shame to see them "die" forever.  For some who may not or cannot afford new computer equipment to use the new version of the game, this would be a good idea.  It's a win win situation where you can still earn "something" and those who can't fly the new version can still fly the game and enjoy without having to pay for the full version.  Everyone gets to continue to have fun and enjoy/promote the game!

Think of it this way as well, PacMan, has not died.  it continues to live in many ways.  Why turn you back on AHII, when there's an option to let others play at a reduced cost.  It's a win for everyone.

I think its time to invest in a somewhat modern computer. AH3 is not very graphics intensive to able to play with decent FPS compared to some other games.

I would agree as well, but some may not be able to for whatever reason.  ;-)

We had the same posts when they went from AH1 to AH2. AH1 close and has never seen the light of day again.

No maps were "lost" at any time. The "donut" map was retired due to the furball lake and all the issue that were built up between the furballers and the base grabbers. The original pizza map was lost because the original files for the map were lost and not available to be upgraded to a new graphics. Again thru no fault of HTCs. From what I understand they are redoing the maps we do have and upgrading them to the new graphics.

Splitting the low numbers we have already into two arenas, as it has been over the last few weeks hurts game play and could confuse new players as to which IS the game.

As Hitech said, it is time. Kiss it good bye and move on.

How much do you think it would cost to get an affordable computer capable to run AH3 at 30 FPS on standard settings?

A couple of years ago I got a bunch of E8400 equipped office computers for the price of free. I've been using mine for eight years now, having upgraded to a five year old video card. HiTech uses a roughly similar one as his development system. A used video card of that level can be got used for $50 at ebay. The best bargain I know of was for free to a fellow player, including mailing costs to another continent.

How much should people be paid to upgrade their computers to a playable level?

I can only speak from a business software development perspective on this one since I'm an SQA Analyst.

I don't think HTC is wholly interested in supporting a legacy software (AH1 or AH2) due to the resources required to keep their software compatible with 3rd party components such as Direct X, Microsoft operating systems, and modern networking technology. If I'm not mistaken, AH1 previously supported dial up connections. Also due to the amount of time and resources spent on supporting legacy software, it likely would not be profitable as a business. Lets be real here- HTC has spent plenty of time, money, and other resources into building a new version of their AH game and I'm pretty sure they would like to use this software as their flagship product. A product that is up to date and contains the groundwork of implementing new features will provide a better return on investment and is appealing to the larger market.

AH2, and I'm pretty sure AH3, supports dial-up connections. I think the netcode they've written is second to none as far as allowing a very good multiplayer experience for those on dial-up.

To your point, yes you are correct. I should have added in my previous post that my comments were in regards to hosting and maintaining an online multiplayer environment.
