Put the GV spawns into CraterMA back like they were in AH2
« on: September 20, 2016, 11:18:28 PM »
Could we please have the spawns back into the Crater portion of CraterMA liked they used to be in AH2.
There were 3 gv spawns from each country that faced one country on the left, the other country on the right, and the middle spawn faced
what ever tanks or GV's were in Tank Town.

It was instant action for the GV'ers. When the Crater map came up, every GV'er went to the Crater portion of the map for instant fun. Now, no one goes to Crater because they have to drive for 10 minutes. CraterMA was allot of fun for GV'ers in AH2. It was the most popular map for GV'ers.

Respectfully requesting.

Leave it alone!! Now that I have to drive 10 min to find a battle I last 11 min longer now.. If i spawned in and drove two min to battle I would only last 90 second's :neener:

As a retired U.S. Army tanker, 24 years in the Armored Cavalry. All I can say is...........

Leave it as it is, the terrain, trees & the spawns... This is as close as AH has ever been to true Armored Warfare!!!

Maybe it is, but it comes at a cost. TT is almost totally deserted now. ;)

Which is, as some may remember, what I predicted after seeing the terrain in BETA :devil  :bolt:

That may not be that bad of a thing...   What happen there can never be called a .... combat simulation.

The kiddie pool, xbox/playstation type players  will relearn how to tank. The downside is they will probably come up with something just as lame.  :frown:

If the spawns get moved to bias the GV base they come from, then you have to have a carrot in the center of the tank town object to get players to venture out into danger. Most of the old TT fans I listen to are PO'd and unwilling to go into the new TT object. The trees have made the proposition very dangerous because none of them want to die a million times to a hand full of players already with the skillz, to learn a skill set they have avoided suffering through for years in AH2. The old CrateMA tank town didn't require driving anywhere to shoot at other tanks and rack up kills. Just making sure you moved a few feet at a time when some snipe located you. A very addictive lazy tank game.

The tank town object is four 1 mile squares. What they probably want is at least a 1000ft high escarpment with spawns just bakc from the edge on their base side. And places to hide in and to snipe from. The only places they will get shots at tanks in tank town will be if players try to use the roads, venture across the open grass areas, or drive up onto the center king of the hill mound. Otherwise, to be able to snipe down into tank town they will be sitting ducks to all the tanks hidden in the trees. And those ack fields with 63 88mm on each one, players groused about bomb****s, but the AH2 TT tended to be a very populated and lively place for "everyone" even with all the grumbling.

The offline gunnery training terrain I made available in the General forum has a road map of the tank town object in it so you have some idea of where things are. I have salted that offline terrain with 200+ tank objects to help you develop strategies to sneak around TT, villages, farmland, along with the town that has tanks all over it. You can print out the TT road map and keep notes of some good hiding spots on tall hills covered in trees. And a few other deceptive features you will never learn about if you don't have an offline way to drive around in TT to really explore it from a tankers PoV. Turn of shadows, reflections, and clutter to help see back in the trees.

The GV numbers in the New Crater map are extremely low to non-existent in TT, when compared to the Old Crater map.

Regardless if the old map made for a "lazy tank game",  the players liked it, and it brought the overall numbers of the arena up when Crater was on. Perhaps its my own bias but I would venture to say that Crater was one of the most popular maps since Trinity. It was for GV'ers anyway.

I like AHIII, and I welcome any change to improve the game, but if it doesn't work - it doesn't work. The GV'ers tried it, the numbers show that the current setup is not getting results.

Hence I respectfully add my vote to change the spawns. . . . Make spawns 5k off another's base, put them back as they were, do something, but don't leave them as they are.

Greebo once told me how the AH2 crater TT turned out was not how he wanted it to work. Some limitation in the AH2 terrain editor forced how he created that configuration. AH3 CraterMA TT is how he originally wanted to do it. The 12k caldera was supposed to eliminate gratuitous bomb slinging to let the tanks shoot each other in peace. It is euphemistically a good action melting pot for tanks and aircraft but, he placed three ack feilds in there with 63 AI 88mm. You even have to be careful flying a storch.

If Greebo wants to he can adjust the current crater to play more like the AH2 version with an exception. Waffle made the 2x2 Tank Town object with trees as a permanent part of the object. It inherits trees and clutter from the tile set used to paint the terrain. One problem with that large object is it needs it's own map due to it's size and complexity. If my gunnery training terrain ever makes it up on the terrain HOST, then along with a var and dod control file download, I will include a road map of the TT object for the maps folder.
