Keyboard controls not responding
« on: September 23, 2016, 11:17:46 PM »
Just got through the worst FSO event ever as most (but not 100% all) of my keyboard controls would not work.  I was up in Ju-88's for a bombing mission and could not zoom the clipboard map, could not select a different control mode (as in mode 3 for bombers which I have mapped to the keyboard), the bombsight view F6 would not work, nor the general zoom in and out (bracket left and right) among others.
I had to manually clear the current mapping for a key (which still showed my original settings) then re-enter and set my map keys again.  I had to do this twice during the mission for the F6 bombsight view.
I've been playing AHIII since mid-Beta and have not had such a problem before. Wondering if it has something to do with being in the Special Events arena vs. the MA.  Everything worked in the MA and TA all day today just fine.  Was just upon entering into FSO this happened.

Arenas have no control over the keyboard mappings.

Are you running any anti-xxxx software on your computer?

If keys suddenly stop working, and you do not appear to be able to save settings, it usually means some anti-xxx software has decided Aces High is a virus.  Not unusual for Norton, McAfee, AVG, Avast, or Kaspersky to do that.  It seems it has gotten worse with Aces High III.

When it happens are you able to type regular? In another program? My guess is no. That or you have a stuck key and trying to type in another program will tell you which. I use Trend Micro cause it seems to be a gaming friendlier virus protection.

I've also had the exact same problem as Sloehand happen with my keyboard. I seem to remember it happening only with DX11 version so far and have reverted to DX9 and not experienced it since.

I'm running Webroot for my antivirus and MalwareBytes in realtime on my system but neither of which have seem to have reported a problem with AH3 being a virus.

Cheers,

Almost always it is a virtual stuck key. This can normally be tested by simply pressing the / key in AH. Which radio is selected would show a key is stuck.

The way to fix it is simply press and release each ctrl shift and alt key one at a time.

What happens is that because key boards can only send at most 3 keys at a time to the computer it can miss sending the up stroke of a modifier key to the system. This has the effect as if you were still pressing the modifier key.
