INTEL 1211 NIC adapter w proper driver

old build.
Realtek 8111 NIC

both builds w7 ultimate 64 SP1

So my issue is that the new build takes hours to DL AH3, but the old build takes minutes, less than 5 minutes!

I have traded ports, re=installed whatever, removed router and directly connected to cable modem, argh.
speedtests are comparable but for some reason DL's behave differently.

Same with my home cloud, the old build is 10x faster at copying stuff back and forth.

Any ideas why the transfer difference?

First silly question - did you try a different network cable with the new card?

Have you tried copying something large from one spot on the HD to another?  Possibly the issue is with how the HD's behaving, not the network?

That doesn't surprise me. For quite some time already IE8 from a fresh Windows installation has had issues in performing the simplest tasks. The version on the installation package is very much outdated, getting a more modern browser instead of patching IE8 is the best/only solution. As of January 12th all previous versions of IE are unsupported: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/WindowsForBusiness/End-of-IE-support

The game download comes from 3 different servers located at two different ISP's.  It is a round-robin sequence, so you really never know which server it is coming from as the sequence increments to the next server for each download.

The speeds could vary from one server to the other, and will definitely vary from one service to the other.

Check so your Ethernet run 1gb  full duplex.

Kill ipv6 protocol.

Also check so it does not use "green power or some power saving features.

You might want recheck so you really have the latest drivers for your Nic also from Intel.

Try replace the cable for a CAT6.

If you have more than one adapter you should disable the one you don't use, Nic teaming sucks for workstations.

tanx folks but the solution was installing IE 11.
Kills me I checked, re-installed drivers yada yada. Since W7 no longer supported I had a hard time even finding a DL of IE 11. I discovered an older DL stashed in my cloud and it did the trick.

IE is becoming more and more obsolete. Not to mention the issues caused by every version taking a different approach to standardized coding. I'd rather not use IE anywhere.

There's one site I know about that doesn't work with any other browser and that's http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx where you can download the update package for Win7 among other things.

I been going between IE11 and OPERA. Like OPERA a lot.
Begs question now. New install, thru SP1, minimal updates so far. What do I want to add in that helps my new dedicated AH VR rig, I only want the minimal?

Basically you don't need any of the "recommended updates", only the "critical" ones. I'd change that in the Windows Update options, if you already haven't done so. Hardcore users might want to choose what to install even from the critical ones, but that would mean thoroughly studying each and every update. I for one am not that interested since I don't run any delicate software. If, for some odd reason, you find out you'd need some of the recommended/optional ones, it'll be an easy task to check those, or rather that single one.
