What do you prefer - floppy or stiff?
« on: October 03, 2016, 05:25:02 PM »
For months I've been using my X-55 with the default spring. Today I decided to put a very light spring in it, I vaguely remember being less brutal on the stick in my old days using CH gear.

I like CH because it doesn't have a spring that will wear out/change over time. Learning new muscle memory STINKS!

What do CH sticks use to keep the stick at zero position?  Or do they just flop over when not being held?

We're going to chalk this up to Vudak having an idiot moment and leave it at that :D

My earliest "real" stick was a CH. Couldn't stand the weak springs so I pulled the bottom and added thick rubber bands to supplement them. Much closer to real stick forces in WW2 planes. It worked fine until one would break, usually at the worst possible time. One opponent messaged me bad mouthing me for pulling out of a fight.  Told him I had to pull out 'cause the rubber broke!  :rofl

I modified my CH x,y axis yokes to hold several layers of 1\2in wide bicycle inner tube I slice off from a cheap inner tube. Lasts up to 6 months for average use before I have to open it up and replace them. Because the x,y forces are equal, the stick pretty much auto centers and I no longer have to calibrate it. And it has a more realistic force back feeling. I edited the jsm file for my joystick and removed about 10,000 of the ends of the calibration numbers to shorten my full deflection throw. Saves on the wear and tear from doing full axis throws of the stick.

I put the light spring in my stick last night and I definitely prefer floppy. Takes a while to get used too though.

Is the op referring to mams?   Either works for me.  ;)

Much prefer floppy to stiff for AH, due to the nature of the game and having to yank the stick around a lot in fights.  I had picked up another cheap used 99% condition Warthog Stick last month, and tried it out int he Ki43 and ran out of ammo but had a couple cons I kept evading for 15 minutes - I could really notice the difference in stiffness, as I always use the CH stick for AH.

IMO CH is around the best balance for this type of game, Saitek isn't a whole lot different IMO either, although the spring can make fine movements from center a little less precise in some cases, of the half dozen x36/45/52/55 I've tried, I'd say about half make me unhappy in this regard in particular.

I prefer whatever I'm used to using.
