I'm skeptic about hackers version;, guess who's got the most to win from an internet black out over next 2 weeks? !  ;, and they took over the internet on oct. 1st , anything can happen. I've been watching this today and withdrawn some cash this evening, who knows could expand into banking networks.

Reptilian she may be, but she's no Jane Badler.

"Then out spake brave Horatius, the Captain of the gate:
To every man upon this earth, death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better, than facing fearful odds.
For the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods."

There is nothing majorly sophisticated about a DoS or DDoS attack. A 10 year old with little IT knowledge at all can launch one. All you need is a few $$$.

They don't really achieve much, unless your network security is from the 1990s, and if you're on a decent ISP they will have DDoS mitigation systems in place.

That is true. The only difference this time is they are not targeting a site but instead dns servers. This in turn affects a lot of sites.

Nothing more than the first test of the infamous 'internet kill switch' touted by the administration years back as on the preezys to-do want list.  It just took getting the DNS supervision moved to other countries so the smart guys in the US don't get wind of it.  So far it seems to work albeit spotty, but I bet they'll keep working on it.  The globalists are rubbing their hands in anticipation.   :noid

This might be a dumb question, but: Who would benefit from killing the Internet? I can understand a short term hostage situation where the attackers would ask for a fee to free a site, but even then how would they send their ransom request? By snail mail?

I can imagine a situation where the editors would tell a "news flash" like this:"We just got news that yesterday a ransom letter dated a week ago had arrived..." Just like a hundred years ago.
