The healthcare system in Norway is not somewhat socialist, it is completely socialist. "I'm sorry but this medicine is too expensive." - "I'm sorry but this operation is too expensive". We're just red numbers on some bureaucrat's ledger and the waiting time for operations, or even diagnosis is measured in months. Private healthcare alternatives are largely outlawed, so some desperate people sell their belongings to finance treatment abroad.

We have Doctors here not much better. If you have a Doctor not helping you dont stay under his "spell". Go find another who can. Honestly I often think Doctors are more dangerous then the illness with the incompetents Ive seen in my life.

Before the strokes I installed and serviced many an oncology
MRI and CT. From what I recall, radiation treatment and
chemo treatment are rarely effective (but not ineffective).
I told my Neuro, Card and Family Docs, to shoot me up with
morphine and send me home should I ever get a disease that cannot be 100%
cured. I figure there is no point in draining or savings for a "maybe" good outcome  :aok
But that is just me... I would not suggest it for anyone else

My mom was recently diagnosed with colon cancer and I could not imagine if this had happened to her.
He is in my prayers for a speedy recovery.    :pray

   Sorry to read this Dale,we have social medicine here but it's top notch. Both my wife and I have been dealing with the big C and we are thankful we have good nearby Hospitals and Doctors.

  Funny thing is my Doc is Latvian,so he knows how bad it could be and does his best to be sure we are both treated with the best care possible. Colon cancer can be a real pain in the... if you're over 50 be sure to be checked,if caught early there's good success,if left too long well it's not something anyone would want to go through!

 Poor countries, corruption same in Romania; in 2007 i had to buy blood for transfusions, anesthetics and pay the doctors to operate my mother , was too late anyway. If you have $$ live longer, i read about David Rockefeller at 101 yo, received 7th hearth transplant.
