Aircraft ditching on water
« on: October 27, 2016, 08:54:32 PM »
Tried it and seemed to work fine.

Now, is it possible to borrow some code from the PT Boat's wake and bow spray logic and have the ditching plane make splash and a short wake disturbance in the water before it comes quickly to rest?  And once at rest, can you give it a nose-down orientation and a minus Z elevation, so the plane looks partially submerged?

And finally, if you "bail" out of a water-ditched plane, can your chute guy look like this:

EDIT: This turned into more of a wish list item than a bug report, sorry.

Also Air Sea Rescue would be great to have.  If you save a downed pilot you get some sort of reward.  Perks.  Points.  Achievements.

Well...then we'll need the PBY to do these water rescues.

And a Ju-52 on floats.  Maybe a Kingfisher.  The game dynamics would change immensely.  Imagine a giant battle to rescue a downed pilot or two.  Talk about fun.

Can we nail him with the 8inch battery from the cruiser?

I can just see the first furball near a task group when we get this one. All the gunners will be targeting life rafts and forgetting to shoot planes. Airjer will be pleased.

spoilsport!   don't you want to strafe said pby in the middle of a rescue leading to 2 guys needing help, then hanging around until there is another and another?   Then add a sea monster or sharks with laser beams that come up and devour all of them.    :rock

But as a British gentleman you would of course not dare to open fire at an unarmed plane in the middle of a rescue operation..

yes it is--m3's do not have to drive 15-20 miles to resupp a player.

and who would give up combat to go rescue a downed pilot..

but this wish will not happen.

and why waste the time and effort to do so.
if a person bailed out of a plane 99.99% chance they got shot down-giving someone a kill-so what's the point?

It's actually quite a bit different from people asking for GV supplies.  For one thing, what Lunatic said.  For another, the guy asking for GV supplies is generally in an advantageous spot for his tank that took a while to get into.  He wants supplies to continue his run and, now here's the important part- keep fighting.

The guy getting a pilot pickup is sitting in a field with his thumb in his ear waiting for someone to give him a ride.  He cannot defend, he cannot attack.  All he can do is sit there and wait for a pickup, then sit there as a passenger while they RTB.

We don't need yet another incentive for non combat gameplay.

Immersion is what this game is about for me. The PBY and rescuing follow pilots would be a great addition, imho.

soap operas have immersion try those lol --we already have plenty of immersion.

Immersion is what this game is about for me. The PBY and rescuing follow pilots would be a great addition, imho. uh no it won't-why can't you understand that in no way possible would this work. you know I watched other games on youtube.and I have never seen a pby or a duck picking up a downed pilot on the other online games similar to AH3- if they don't do it why should HTc-why because it's silly.   let the flame baiting begin :joystick:
