Damage Model
« on: November 03, 2016, 01:16:51 AM »
What is going on with the damage model?

This is my night:

Fly 10 to 15 minutes to find a fight
1 ack ping or 2 pings from another aircraft, I am pw, eng gone, wing gone, whole empennarge gone or flames
Re-up
Fly 10 to 15 minutes to find a fight

Re-up
Fly 10 to 15 minutes to find a fight

Getting the picture .. the ratio of flying to a fight in comparison to fighting a fight has increased dramatically.

Did you happen to record any film of any of these incidents? Also, what aircraft were you flying? What type of aircraft hit you? Hard to give any further info without some additional details...but the film might be the best help as well for both your and everyone else to review.

Cheers!

Yes have recorded many .. all types of aircraft, typically it seems the 20mm has had quite a substantial increase in damage potential.

I believe that HiTech has said the damage model has not changed.  I say this not to dispute in anyway your experiences and actually concur that pilot wounds and certain types of damage seem to be more prevalent.

Believing that there is possibly a "physical" model difference.  So, I ask the question, is it possible that the new game engine somehow increases the "amount" of surface area to damage?  An example being one bullet hole in the wing of Jug and one gun is damaged.

The best advice is to keep filming and maybe capture the golden BB as it creates the pilot wound, engine damage, etc.  In past bugs, damage done to one area was erroneously reflected in another area.

Another possibility is that either there are more AAA guns on the "new" fields or have they been coded to do damage differently?

A short film along with your concerns to AH will do the trick. HiTech and crew can pull much more info from an AH film than just viewing it. If there is an issue, you will assist them in pinpointing it with the AH film.

The only notable change I have ran across is the increasing incident of losing both ailerons on the P-38 in AH3.

If you have a concern that something might be wrong with the damage model, then drop a film in the bug report forum with a description of what you think is wrong.

Oddly, I saw that same issue the other night, but not since

Re the OP, things seem to run in waves.  Sometimes, I can fly through a large base, and never take an ack ping.  Other nights, I get the ping of death far away from town, and it happens more than once that night.

i believe we are dealing with more guns on enemy bases.  Also flying to a base takes time, i try not to exceed 2 kft/m climb rate and speed over 250.  i mite come in low... but you know,  :joystick:.

Could also be sound related. Maybe you are not hearing the damaging hits prior to the round that disables a part of you or your plane.

So it sounds like only one ping rather than many.

20mm's seem to just melt you in the game....even the single 20mm of most axis seem fatal.

Bottom line is if they get a shot on you...something is coming off...if it is a cannon armed bird..you are probably dead.

The ack..well I was at 27k, turning back to base (nothing like a long afk), and ping....ack kill.   Couldn't have been more than 6 or 7 miles from the base:)  But I watch others fly right through a full up field with no apparent issues....so I just think its a roll of the die.

This.  The other guy's gunnery is an approximation on your end.  If there's a moment of lag as you're getting hit, it can come across on your end all at once so you go from showroom fresh to tower and may only hear one ping or a couple.

I will keep track of the p-38 event of losing both ailerons to see if it occurs equally in air combat as it does to field ack.  My thoughts are the damage model is not the problem but increased lethality of field ack of which I have no problem.
