NOE raids were awesome, They required quite a lot in form of coordination to be successful and when it's done right so the goon is droping the troops while the town is smashed by a ton of 110:s and everything is over in less than a minute...

FSO events don't have the dot-dar enabled, only the sector bar-dar, and that usually has some sort of delay added. Seems to work out OK.   *shrug*

Dot-Dar is the most boring part of the game. Its not used to find fights, its an artificial SA-enhancement, more like the on-board radar in space-combat games than anything that simulates a WW2 ground based radar or human obsever. Sector counters seem fine. But the real-time updating 100% precision and accuracy reports of any individual plane... too much. Limiting it to "roughly there", with some time-delay would make things a lot more interesting. Predicting intentions of reported planes is part of the combat.

You have to keep in mind that this IS A GAME. Dot dar is there not because "it was in the war", because we all know it wasn't. No it is there to help players FIND other players to FIGHT..... or in todays game, avoid  :(

NOE is the same, just another way to AVOID fighting and/or interacting with other players. The dar was slammed to the ground after the only missions running were NOEs and a game of "wack a mole" was the only way to find a fight. HTC relented a bit and the dar we have now is the result. It is not impossible to run NOE (it is still pretty rampant on the "island" maps due to being able to run over water most of the way) but it is not as easy and so not as many are run.

Dars broke half the time anyway these days...be flying toward an area then boom dar pops and dots appear at 20K in front of you.

The wack a mole horde was terrible....don't need to change dar to fight from a position of disadvantage which those hordes definitely were not fighting from just because they were NOE.

I do wish radars were a little bit harder to destroy though. No dots make it very difficult for new players to understand the # of players in fights. Even with dar bars, if it is small, you think there is only 1 or 2 planes flying, you might not waste your time rolling. If there are dots there, you can see, oh there is really 5 planes there, and it looks like a good fight. Some new players might roll from a base with a small darbar, fly for 45 minutes and never find a single red guy. This can make it seem boring, so they log off or quit.

They usually fly for 45 minutes to be found (possibly with the help or dot-dar). That's even worse than no contact. Besides, new players are a myth. They don't exist.

Radar helps to avoid vulches, and makes picking incoming jabos easier. Some may want to consider that "fighting", where it as best getting some kills.

To create fights, it would need an area of interest to get to for both parties, both with the chance to get some altitude, and both with equal radar support. Captures happening near fields and the radar beining based at fields don't seem to be the soil on which even fights can grow easily.

Once,  not to long ago we called this a combat simulation and that is what I want Aces High to be.
The more "game like" AH has become... the less players we have around. Just an observation on my part.

Can start by cleaning up the clipboard map.  IMHO we do not need to see everyone's planes and heading (did WWII aircraft have that ability? . )  Put it back to dots like it was.
Still hate the pink and blue flashing runways too.

I like it just like it is. No change is required. However, if anything is changed it should be the radar floor. I like the NOE raids coming in.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.
