Sound drivers
« on: November 29, 2016, 06:45:30 AM »
I recently installed a new motherboard and CPU.

Mobo: Asrock z170 pro4s
CPU: intel i5 6600k

I formatted my HDD and I currently am having to re install everything.. which is fine I wanted a fresh start. However I can't get my sound to work. It tells me there is no driver installed. My motherboard supports Realtek hd audio so I downloaded that from their website and installed it and still nothing... I'm lost.
Might help if I mention I'm using windows 7 64bit

Spek, you might need to go into your bios settings and enable it

Just a thought

Hope this helps

Start here: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z170%20Pro4S/index.us.asp?cat=Download

At least download the sound drivers from there.  Then you can find the exact model of sound device and update the drivers.

Should I delete one I've downloaded currently?

Check the BIOS and make sure it is enabled, like TC said.

I also have an Asrock MOBO.
I went to Asrock's site and looked yours up.
Driver Download for Asrock Z170 Pro4s.

I would uninstall any audio drivers you now have, then install from the link I provided.

[Edit]  Here is a description & some optional solutions to the error code you are getting.  Error 0x000000FF  It appears Method #3 is working for a lot of people.

I tried all 3 steps nothing works.  I actually dont even have that option for solution 3.  I have tried using the disk the motherboard supplied me with still didnt work.  Same error code.

Couldn't find anything in the bios. It's like windows 7 doesn't recognize that my mother board has on board sound or something. So I'm upgrading to windows 10. If that doesn't fix it I'm gonna have to take it to get fixed which is so annoying considering I've dumped 800$ into this thing.

Sorry to maybe offend u in any way Spek.... but in the Bios, under AdvancedChipset Configuration /  if you scroll down there is not an option for HD Audio?  Or is it greyed out? According to the Bios Screen i saw HD Audio should be between  Inte(R) Ethernet Connection I219-V  and Front Panel categories in the Bios.  <S> man hope u get it running .

38 beat me to it, as I had to download the Motherboard manual and read it, but as 38maw posted, switch from EZ Mode to Advanced Mode when you enter your BIOS settings to allow access to all the Advanced settings

I have also found that the ERROR CODE:  0x000000FF , can be caused by any number of different things conflicting with the OS Installation and Audio Devices and / or Drivers that might be loaded ( example: HD Audio Driver on your Video Card )

Here is another link that is similar to the one 100Coogn post or trying to resolve the error: https://appuals.com/how-to-fix-install-realtek-hd-audio-driver-failure/

This ERRORCODE has been in the Windows family ever since WindowsXP if not before, and sometimes comes up from a corrupted File in the Operating System ( OS ) installation or it could possibly be a corrupted OS Installation

Removing all Audio Drivers and removing or disabling all audio devices from the system manager then doing a reboot, then let Windows load it's default Audio Driver if possible

then update the Audio Driver with the correct RealTek HD Audio Driver  ------> ASRock Z170M Pro4S Realtek Audio Driver 6.0.1.7543

Good Luck and hope you get it figured out Spek!

TC

EDIT: there is a longshot chance that the onboard RealTek Audio might possibly have gotten grounded out or could possibly be "Dead", which will also cause this ERROR CODE to pop up.... I truly hope this is not the case

Upgraded to windows 10. All is well :). Must be due to the fact that wondows7 and Realtek are "legacy" stuff.
