Not a bad build at all.
I have the 970.  Would have gotten the 1060, but I found a used 970 for cheap.
That's a very good CPU cooler.  I have the same thing cooling my FX8350.  Idles at 28C.

So it should be a good setup to play the game?  I'm not looking to have the best system. Just one to get me back into playing.

I'd go with the 1060 GPU, drop the SSD and throw that money at 8 more gigs of ram. I'd suggest a higher output power supply, possibly 800 watts or so. This will come in handy later if you add more drives or devices.

It would probably run AHIII fine the way you have it listed. Mine are just suggestions.

i dont have experience but i would say up the power supply to 600+ and get at least the 970 video card.  learn about what makes a videocard great and the power they need.  in the beta forum there are some good links and info about the subject.

Instead of really sucking bad when I started way back, I chose to spread my suckage out over many years. It's more tolerable that way.  :joystick:

It will surely play AHIII.
If you do decide to go with the 970, be aware that it needs two power connectors.  A 6-pin and an 8-pin, as seen here.

The 1060 only requires one 6-pin.
Just want to make sure that your power supply has the physical connectors.

**Edit**  Having your OS on an SSD and your games on another drive will help too.  Windows will have some breathing room to do it's thing, while your other
drive can access the files needed to play.

The 1060 card uses less juice vs the GTX 970, which may give you enough wiggle room with the 520W Seasonic. More is always better but you should be fine with what you spec'd.

Don't discount the RX480. It is a powerful card that gives you more bang for your buck. You have to be careful of which one you buy though, due to some budget cards having crap coolers and cheap parts causing them to overheat. A good 480 that runs nice and cool is the XFX RX480 GTR 8GB. It overclocks nicely and barely breaks a sweat with some AAA titles out there like GTAV. other good 480s include the MSI GamingX and the ASUS Strix. It's cheaper and more powerful than the 970, and uses little power. It's about on par with the 1060 as far as performance goes. As for running Aces High, it should have no problem.

I think you put together a nice build, and have no suggestions for change.   If you go with the 1060, I recommend the 3 GB version for Aces High.  It'll run Aces High well, and the 6GB version is 20% more $ for about a 5% performance boost.  I think the extra VRAM will not do anything for you in Aces High, or most current games for that matter.   :aok

....and I disagree with "lack of computer intellect"  Looks like you be getting it now....one advantage of building your own!

As has already been said, that's a good solid build and any of those options will run AH3 well.

Of your options I'd choose the GTX 1060 3 GB. If you choose otherwise, you'd have to get a little more powerful power supply. In that case something in the 650-750 W should do well. Too much headroom will cause issues. As for the brand, you've done your homework well  :aok

For playing AH the SSD is not necessary. Agreed, it will make your system boot faster but supposedly you don't have any plan for the saved 15 seconds. An SSD doesn't make the game run any better.
