Stall Buffet Sound
« on: December 03, 2016, 04:04:38 PM »
The problem: Spinning out frequently in stall fights

Cause of the problem: Seemed I was missing a sound clue as the stall got more serious.  In AH2, there was a stall buffet sound.  In AH3, there isn't.  Is that it?  If there is an AH3 stall buffet sound, any way to adjust it?  In AH2, I had stall horn at 50 and stall buffet at 100.

I apologize if this a much discussed topic.  I did a search and couldn't find anything.  Thanks for the help.

AH3 has a new stall buffet sound. It's not as obvious as the old one. It sounds like sheet metal flexing. If you have the cockpit in view you'll see it shake with the stall buffet along with the new sound.

Yah...as a pilot I noticed the metal shake buffet right away. I really doubt that the old WW2 planes had a stall warning horn like later model planes. But even so in a high speed turn stall even a modern plane may not send a horn depending on which wing stalled. The stall horn is a micro switch flapper on the leading edge of a wing. With a STOL kit on my c180 I could get it so slow it wouldn't stall with the air speed reading 0 because of the angle of attack. High speed turn stall can be really quick in a real plane and I think AH sim is really close. It's called the hunters stall...tight circle to look at moose.

Good description of the sound.  It's there.  Practicing offline, I could pull gently into the buffet and ride it.

Seems AH3 stall buffet is less forgiving.

I'll just have to learn to pull more gently into the stall horn if I want to ride the buffet.  Can't wait to see how that works with adrenaline in a white-knuckled revenge kill attempt.

I too had to struggle with the AH3 buffet sound.  I was very use to the custom sound I had in AHII.  I seem to be getting use to the new sound though.  Practice makes perfect.

I'm smiling because I think you administered a butt-whooping that got me frustrated enough to start this thread.  I'll take my lumps when I have it coming to me.  I hate making it easier.

lol. What were you flying?  What was I flying?  Trying to recall it. (I'm old, so I need a hint sometimes)

That said, if I can help learn the ways of the force, let me know.
