Head set
« on: December 06, 2016, 10:23:15 AM »
I wanted to strongly hint to my wife that I want a headset for Christmas.

I am thinking USB, and over the ear for comfort.  My sound comes from the realtek sound on the mother board.  Now my hearing is barely in the good range  having gotten older so no need for super accurate sound reproduction.  I do not want to spend a load of cash.  Thinking in the fifty buck range more to a bit more if it is worth it.

Any recommendations?

Can't recommend anything in special, but your post made me think.

Since your hearing isn't too demanding, why USB? As you may know, an USB headset will add another sound card into your devices. Unless you were thinking about blasting the engines through some 5.1 speaker system and use the headphones for communication only, you'd better disable the Realtek in the BIOS to prevent accidental changes in your sound settings, both in Windows and in AH3.

Another thing I'd avoid a USB headset is that we already have seen and read about power issues when using multiple USB controllers. Someone pointed out that even powered USB hubs don't necessarily solve everything since there's always some power directed through the motherboard USB controllers to each and every device.

I would suggest a set of sennheiser, non USB might be abit more money but well worth it. I used to use Plantronixs, which were quite good but rarely lasted more than a year before they would develop a short, either the mic or 1 speaker.

I've had my sennhieser's for about 3 years now and they still work and sound great. The only downside is TIR doesnt sit well on my set but there are many available at different price points!

  YMMV!

I have a HyperX Cloud gaming headset and it's very comfortable. Doesn't squish your head and the sound is good. Mic is good too.
I would recommend it.

Thanks everyone for the replies.  Both headsets look really good.

Bizman, thanks for straightening me out on the USB.  I agree, i do not need a USB after your post.

The cloud fits the budget perfectly.

These are made by Sony. I broke an old Sony pair of plastic headphones that lasted nearly ten years. You didn't mention a mic, so . . .

Anyway, I use these for streaming movies, and radio. I do use the sanitary ear covers with them too, but I bought like a gross years ago and still haven't run out.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.
