Got to see Rogue One this evening in an advanced showing through my employer.

Really good movie IMO.  Properly done for its place. Keeps to the established lore / cannon. Best movie since Episode VI.  No problems recommending it to any Star Wars fan.  If you don't like the original Star Wars, you can stay home, but the rest of you should go see it.

I have a few quibbles that I won't discuss for a few days so people can form their own opinions.

Definitelly better than the last Starwars mess.

However, like every movie I have seen in the last 3 years it is just too long. Seems like all the edit rooms in Holywood lost their scissors and cant afford new ones. I could easily remove 20-30 minutes without losing a thing. If anyone in Holywood asks, I am for hire and I come with my own scissors.

Not sure about the editing/length part, from what I've read they shot TONS of footage that they cut, at least another 2 hours worth if they wanted to build a super editors cut.  IMO they cut together the best stuff they shot pretty well.

IMO it's been the best SW film since Empire, and was at least as good as that one.  Without spoiling anything (Everyone knows Vader is in the film from the trailers), Darth Vader's bit made the film, probably the best 1 or 2 mins of Star Wars..ever.

I saw it yesterday and really liked it. A worthy prequel for the original trilogy and hands down the best SW flick since the originals.

Yep. a few scenes in the trailers that aren't even in the film. Like a lot.

I disagree with cutting it shorter as well. If anything I think they could've spared an extra 10 minutes to add in some very important scenes.

I look forward to the extended edition with an extra hour of content.  Can't understand why people can't look at how long the film is and block off enough time in their schedule. I mean were you bored that two hours is too long? If yes, then I don't know what to tell you other than you watched a different movie than I did.

Dont Get me wrong but does Rogue 1 Follow the last movie where Luke Was shown at the end? I am confused at all the Star Wars movies except the ones I saw when I was young the newer ones also confused me

No, this is one of three or four anthology movies they're making in the Star Wars universe. Stand-alone movies that do not follow the same main characters and main story line. Rogue One is set just before episode 4 (the first SW movie released in 1977) and follows a group of rebels on a mission to sabotage/acquire intel on the Death Star. I haven't seen the move yet, but I suspect in the end they tie it into the main story line with Leia flying off with the Death Star plans in her blockade runner. Setting up for the opening scene of episode 4.

The first two paragraphs in the opening crawl of episode 4 basically sums up the plot of Rogue One.

Ooooookay, so... I HATED VII. I felt personally insulted by it. So I didn't expect much of Rogue One.

Rogue One in one sentence: Disney redeemed itself.

It was FANTASTIC! It had all of the action and heart of Star Wars, without any of the Disneyfication that was painful to watch in VII. There were a BUNCH of cameos of characters from the original trilogy (IV, V, VI) that were all very tasteful. They were gratuitous sometimes, yes, but they weren't forced. If you were a big fan, you noticed, went "Ah! That's that one guy from that scene in the cantina!" and if you weren't a huge fan, you didn't even notice it, so it didn't detract. My ONLY complaint in the entire thing was their choice in several Starships. They made new ones here, rather than using ones that already served that role, and ARE cannon. It's a minor pet peeve of mine when new things are created just for the sake of feeling creative, but there are honestly only 3 ships that were replaced with new things, so I can let it slide.

Honestly, though it pains me to say it, this might just be my favorite Star Wars movie.

It's no kids movie Shuffler, like the Anakin trilogy was, not by a long shot.  Right from the first few sequences, there is some pretty brutal, some would say heartless killing, and not just from the Imperial side of things.  I was really impressed with the direction they took with the ending, based on the previews, obviously the ending was a large part of the re shoots, but that's fine, it turned out great IMO. 

It's as good as Empire ever was IMO, worse in some ways perhaps, but better in others.  I'm very impressed, and wouldn't have guessed Disney was capable of making a SW film like this. It bodes well for all the future projects, the Han Solo stand alone film, and all the potential other "A Star Wars Story" options they have.  I wasn't the hugest fan of Force Awakens, it was better than episodes 1/2/3 by a long shot, but nothing compared to Rogue One IMO.  After a very disappointing Star Trek film (Beyond) this year, it was a nice surprise to have a great Star Wars film to end 2016.

IMO it's going to do great $, kind of a slower start than I thought it would have, but with school out soon, and over Xmas, I think it'll get into Titanic territory.
