This is the Spitfire Mk IX of Squadron Leader Bernard Duperier of 340 Squadron RAF in late 1942. 340 was a French squadron formed in late 1941 and flew missions from southern England and later France until the end of the war. They claimed 37 aircraft and 500 vehicles and trains destroyed for the loss of 30 pilots killed. As well as the French squadron "Cross of Lorraine" emblem and a Squadron Leader's pennant Duperier's aircraft had personal nose art depicting a Donald Duck figure pulling a Hitler-headed worm out of France.
