What part of your flying are you trying to work on most?
« on: January 04, 2017, 09:22:16 PM »
One thing I love talking about, is how to be a better fighter pilot in AH. Air combat in Aces High is so thrilling to me. There are so many situations that you cannot plan for that makes it so fun and so difficult at the same time. The plane choice can take the challenge to a whole nother level. I've dedicated ( I guess you can say that) so many hours into this game to try to become a good fighter pilot in AH. When I first started, I thought I was going to be in beast mode and kill everyone quickly, after playing MCFS and MFS for a few years. Turns out, I was so wrong it hurt. Yaws in his 109 continuously beat me down. Then I when I thought I was good from H2H, I went to the MA and DA, where Batfink and a few others beat me relentlessly, like I was a still a total noob. The level of ability was night and day. Then a squad was nice enough to invite me. At the time I only knew fighter things. This squad taught me how to Jabo, bomb, and take bases with a squad. Then they taught me the moves that would change my flying forever and turn me into a nasty definsive fighter in the MA. 2 definitive maneuvers that would forever take my fighter ability to the next level. Even though I wasnt cut out for that type of intense squad play anymore, I will forever be thankful for what they taught me. Over the years I've used this experince to help me understand the game. As you can, there is soo much to learn!

Now, I am working on ways to be better at the rolling scissors and maintaining E management.

I don't want this to turn into a training and help discussion.

What are some of the things you are working on to be better at the game or to improve your fighter/jabo/tanking/bomber skills?

The way I get better Violater is simply to fly as many different types of fighter as possible in as many different ways as possible. I for one am a pioneer in the "BnZ Spitfire".

Mainly I'd suggest flying a couple of different aircraft per day. On different types of missions. Learn their capabilities and their do's and don'ts. I currently am dedicating my life to the Japanese plane set.

I've done decent in the areas of bombing and maneuvering.

I've grown very fond of the P-38 (L and J model) over the past couple weeks, partly thanks to seeing Shuffler zip around in it. It's actually a pretty amazing aircraft.

I'd say I do need to work a bit more on my aim and getting the right amount of lead and not waste my rounds on one guy. :joystick:

Off-topic, but I definitely need to do better in tanks. I can never seem to hit the right spots while in a T34, and typically end up hitting the enemy tank between 1 - 4 times before they just turn on me, pop me once, and I'm dead. Maybe it's just bad luck and maybe it's not. :headscratch:

I'm currently teaching myself better throttle management when inside rolling scissors. Almost got it down.

I've been trying to work on getting back to what my skill level/abilities were at back around 2003 through 2007.... I know that it's going to be dang near impossible to achieve, but if I could at least get somewhere close, I would be OK with that....

Spek, a lot of people think that throttle management while performing a "rolling scissors" is really crucial... I would recommend working on your lead/lag, and controlling the arch/arc of your rolling turn while maintaining WOT (wide open throttle)....you should not and do not want to be coming off your throttle any at all if you can help it...use the plane's vector to gain the advantage by using steeper or shallower rolls pointing that lift vector where you need it while maintaining maximum throttle

Hope this helps

gunnery  :bhead only flying for about an hour 4x a month isn't helping either. It never really clicks into place unless more hours are put in and it becomes second nature.  People with really excellent gunnery, put hours in.

Right now it's horrific. When you don't fly a maneuverable plane you have to make your first shot or two really count or you die. (and I don't mean HO's)
In a more maneuverable plane the fights take much longer and can end up on the deck and it wastes a lot of ammo.

I've been using staged missions to get me into battle quicker than Melee Arena and practicing there...but normally I'm too busy.

Flying more intense a few days greatly improves gunnery but take a break from the game and you are back on square one....

Every time HTC has changed versions there is a period of relearning the gunnery.  :joystick:
I think the move to AH3 has been the most dramatic change. Can't say that I even see my tracers anymore but have to shoot on instinct. That may be a good thing.  :airplane:
