Character is like a tree and reputation like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.

HTC should add a new plane a few times per year, in addition to the continuous updating of the current set.  New planes, even new old planes, create enthusiasm for the game.
"Then out spake brave Horatius, the Captain of the gate:
To every man upon this earth, death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better, than facing fearful odds.
For the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods."

In 2011 what were we thinking and what did people think they were getting? We ended up with the 410 and who fly's it anymore? A bit later the Yak3 and Ki43, and everybody flys the Yak and ignores the Ki43 for it's weak guns. Guns do tend to be a big factor in players ride decisions along with running away speed. Who knows, this list may have indicated the data on hand at HTC for getting a ride out the door quickly if HTC was willing to let us vote on "their" list.

2011 Vote Results:

Me 410
150 (14.8%)

Beaufighter
147 (14.5%)

Ki-43
118 (11.7%)

Meteor
107 (10.6%)

Yak 3
103 (10.2%)

Mig 3
67 (6.6%)

G.55
65 (6.4%)

J2M
50 (4.9%)

D.520
45 (4.4%)

Ki-100
39 (3.9%)

Ki-44
29 (2.9%)

Boomerang
25 (2.5%)

This is like the old joke that voters are harsher to their beer brewer if he has an outage, than their politicians after raising their taxes. Death and taxes are certain but, fun and sex is only now.

Thanks Buster, very interesting.

Looks like the Beaufighter is still very much wanted, and the G.55 and Ki.45 have both moved up while the Meteor's popularity has remained about the same. Its not a completely valid comparison because of the different planes in my poll probably siphoned off some votes.

In both polls I think the Japanese plane lovers are at a disadvantage because there are so many missing Japanese planes, their votes get watered down among the choices.  If they could all agree to support just one plane, it'd probably get enough votes to win out.

Because French fighter that actually could hold a candle to an early 109.

P47 D23 Because if you like the razorback you are stuck with a very early war model that does not benefit from a paddle blade prop nor extra pylons.

HE129 because big o tank buster

Meteor because the 262 is lonely

Thanks Kimo, that's a good point.

If I ever do this again I think I'd add a description - production numbers, areas of operation, performance and armament.  I'd be sure to include all the other planes from the 2011 poll as well, and make sure not to include a plane we already have in game.... :bhead

Thanks again.  I'll close the poll sometime today.

Beaufighter would add a lot, given the variety of ordnance. The a26 in air warrior trim is nothing but a fond memory.

Poll has been closed, thanks for your participation and suggestions.

The top 3 finishers were:

Fiat G.55 Centauro - 13 (21%)
Bristol Beaufighter - 11 (17%)
Gloster Meteor       -  9 ( 14%)

The Fiat really moved up in popularity from the official poll in 2011.  The Ki.45 started strong but ran out of gas early.   It'd be fun to see any of these planes make an appearance this year though.

Meteor never made the war.

Hey Shuff, not sure where that comes from, there's information out there about the Meteor's WWII service, small though it was.  Used by No.616 Squadron, they were employed chasing  down V1s over Britain in summer 1944.   Ended up knocking down 14.

In January 1945, 4 Meteors moved to Melsbroek AB in Belgium and by March the entire squadron moved to Gilze-Rijen in Holland, and on 13 April moved again to Nijmegen. Finally, on 17 April the Meteor entered combat over Europe, carrying out a ground attack mission near Ijmuiden. For the rest of the war the squadron flew a mix of ground attack and armed reconnaissance missions.  They were credited with 46 air to ground kills.
