Clouds and icons

Rolled in on bombers yesterday....he was below the clouds, I was above. He was on Radar...but I could see his ICON through the clouds...couldn't really  see him.

After I made my first pass, he went into the clouds....but again it didn't matter...ICON gave him away.

Since Trees hide icons, canopy bows hide icons, engines off reduce icon range....what is the possibility if you are in a cloud you get a reduced icon range?

I could be mistaken, but I thought I've had fights in/among clouds and they were obscuring icons as well as the aircraft...

I have as well had fights in the clouds and completely lost the icon/aircraft due to cloud thickness. Ran up on some bombers the other day and no idea they were there because the clouds were very thick.
