Cleaning a CH Fighterstick
« on: January 16, 2017, 01:23:30 PM »
My stick is 12 yrs old and never been opened from the bottom. I bought some contact spray cleaner at Radio Shack in order to give the pots a cleaning. The 4 access screws on the bottom of the case are frozen. I was going to give them a little spray of WD40 unless someone has a better idea. Just don't want to strip the screw heads.

use a light oil that is made for plastics. Some oils will eat the plastic right up.

But other than that, ya blow it out, spray the pots and work them good, lude moving parts and your done.

Those screws are snugged down pretty good from the factory. The trick is a good screwdriver and a steady turn. It'll let go eventually. After that you'll be able to get them off with normal effort.

Without looking something is telling me there are 8 screws. Look under the rubber pads at the corners. One under each.

That's what I recall.

They're tight.  Torqued as if they were holding the top half of an engine onto the bottom. :)  Also, they're long.

I've modified my fighter stick axis yokes by placing tension bands over them. It auto hard returns the stick tight to center and gives the feeling of force feed back. Also if you edit you fighterstick.jsm file and on the lines for x and y axis calibration, take 10000 off each end,  it will shorten your throw for max deflection, and save the life span of your pots. And you won't need to ever calibrate again.

There are 8 screw holes. 4 under the bumpers, 3 visible and 1 under the do not remove tag. Use a tiny computer repair phillips screw driver that perfectly fits the head. It's one size smaller than a "1" in most cases.

If you strip the plastic screw holes, get two part epoxy putty for "plastic"'. Wipe the screw with wax, then push the putty into the hole and run the screw all the way in. Allow the putty about an hour. After that unscrew the screw and screw it back at least once to ensure the threading. Place the bottom back on and gently hand torque the screws until they just tighten. Do this any time you strip the plastic screw threading. I have to replace the tension bands about every 6 months and putty in 4 of the holes.

Good info bustr. A Question on editing my CH Fighterstick jsm file. Which set of #s to reduce by 10,000 ?

My stick shows: x & y axis as 0, 32767, 65535, 0.050000, 0.100000, and 0.250000. I assume it would be the second and third in the series. Is that correct?

Also, any settings to edit for CH throttle and vkb pedals?

I forgot to ask...which folder? The stickdef or in my settings folder? Both show jsm files.
