Some of these mass strandings are caused by sonar.  It destroys the ears of whales and dolphins.

I think the military knows exactly what is happening.  The dolphins are trying to escape from a deafening sound.

The most likely reason would be that an infection interrupted their navigation process.  It's been 30 years since I sat in marine biology in high school.  Watching documentaries over the years on the harmful effects of pollution makes sense.
