B25h gunsight mod
« on: January 21, 2017, 03:47:04 PM »
Could someone kindly point me in the direction of the B25h gunsight mod?  I have been doing some forum searches and the only posts I am finding have dead links in them.

Thanks!

Ask bustr.  I think he ported over his historical AH2 sights to AH3.

I've got to re-calibrate at least one of the ones I made for AH2. I have some updates to a couple of the default sights for AH3 anyway.

I found a reticle plate for the San Georgio TypeA which I made a white and red gunsight for the Italian planes. After playing for awhile in all the light conditions in the game. Red reticles stand out the best under all of the light and clutter conditions. In AH2 it was cyan. So I updated the Osti and Wirbel gunsights to red.

Probably should come up with some magnificent red dot thingy if I'm going to re-calibrate a 5000yd B25H gunsight. I found a better description and current photos of the gunsight and pressure driven range dial for the N3 with a C1 sight head controlled by the AN/APG-13 (Falcon) radar in the B25H.  As a backup in case the radar goes out, there is a hand crank to produce the pressure for the range dial to tilt the sight head. So I'll follow the same rational I did with the gunsight in the wirbel after I found the german manual for the unit.

Our B25H has an N3 gunsight with the manual dial A1 sight head which could be dialed for a 15 degree angle change of the reflector plate moving the pipper up and down the plate. The copilot had to read off ranges and dial settings while the pilot entered into his attack run. So at 5000yds the average hit on ships was 4 out of 12 tries. the falcon radar picked up the ship at 5000 setting the pipper for a 5000 shot. The pilot simply kept the pipper on the ship and hits went up to 9 out of 12.

Found the Aberdeen Proving grounds 250ias ballistic chart for the B-25H in level flight. Converted all of the drops for 5000, 4000, 3000, 2000 and 1000 to Mils and tested the reticle against a task group.

Here is what I suddenly remembered about the last time I built one of these for AH2. These will all be approximations you will end up learning when to fire for each range pipper by experience versus you can pull up the target and hit exactly on each pipper for each range. And the most accurate ranges sadly are where the 5inch gunner will love it when you get that close to the CV. Changes in your speed and angle of attack will make shots outside of 2000 disappointing. And Hitech threw in some wicked dispersion past 2000.

I gotta clean up the new reticle before I release this update for the historic gunsights.
