How?
Arena Settings.
There is an arena setting that will allow (or prevent) players from typing on channel 1 (the "all" channel). Even if ch1 is disabled, it still allows system messages like salutes to be sent. I'm not sure why HTC decided to enable it for players.

Given HTC's penchant for "because that's the way it's always been before." I'm pretty surprised this happened and has gone on for this long if it was an oversight.

Maybe it's an experiment to see if players have learned how to play nice, and be respectful to each other.

I don't think player behavior will ever change...

There is absolutely no reason to even be able to communicate with the opposing teams. If you feel the strong desire to communicate with someone you shot down, then you can always PM them.

And don't make me be a starfish because I assure you I can be the biggest nastiest starfish on the channel. Butt I ch0ose not to be one.

Nope it won't, why games put measurements in place to try to minimize it. CSGO recently made griefing bans permabans....still have toxic players but those who aren't willing to do the work to have multiple accounts have stopped being as bad.

Bolded part, I fully disagree...  Respectful dialog is always fun, and I really do enjoy it most of the time.  The other day I dove down on TA57 and after dismantling his ride with my 8 50's I promptly ran into him, and took my own wing off... His comment on 200 had me laughing out loud...  I would have missed that had I not been tuned...

There's nothing 'disrespectful' about radio silence. There's a lot of disrespect in genital measuring in public (to the whole community, aamof).

That was the nice thing about 200.  You could choose to have it tuned.  With all channel enabled, there is no choice.  So we are stuck with the taunting, whining, politics and general sweetheartbaggery, just so we can witness the occasional niceties.  I'm getting ready to de-tune channel 1 again.

I think it would be fine for folks who do not want it turned on to not be able to use it.

No reason to salute across teams either. Once everyone knows it is off when folks do not tune in.

Human nature always keeps us from having nice things in this game. Anybody see a nuke or a tallboy in the hanger ready to go? :O
