78th Sentai Ki-61
« on: February 05, 2017, 09:41:40 AM »
Thanks to Lyric1 for finding the info for this skin.

This Ki-61 flew with the 78th Sentai who were operational in New Guinea from mid 1943 until they were wiped out by logistics, disease and the USAAF by mid 1944. The symbol on the tail is the Japanese character "Wa" which stood for for Washire Airfield on Halmahera Island where this aircraft was based.

Nice!

Do the characters on the flaps mean "don't stand here?"

Do the characters on the flaps mean "don't stand here?"

Thanks guys.

Yes, its essentially the same as the "no step" signs on US aircraft.

Looking good, however I think the lighting in these screens makes it tough to see real good.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Greebo, I don't see any shadows or glare on the control surfaces' hinge sides - ailerons and elevators.  And now fabric ribbing on these surfaces either?  Maybe its hard to see with the camouflage?   Or did you decide not to show it on this Ki.61?  I can see these features on your default Ki.61 skin.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll look at increasing the hinge shadows on the control surfaces.

BTW one thing I've found on the Ki-61 is that since its a 2048 res fighter skin you have to increase the opacity of things like the panel line layers a lot compared to a big bomber or a 1024 res fighter otherwise they don't show up in the screenshots.

I hadn't changed the normal map for this skin from the one used on the default Ki-61 but I did reduce the fabric grey paint specularity and power so its less shiny. I suspect its a combination of this reduced specularity, the screenshot angle and the camouflage disguising the pattern. So I have now increased the fabric dip effect on the normal map and reversed the specularity change on the fabric effect. The viewer screenshots below show the fabric effect with and without the skin:-
