Updating NVidia Drivers?

So I'm a few weeks into a 1060. Lovin it btw. I see there's a driver update available. Been a long time since I've had a green team card so I was wondering if there's anything I oughta know about the process that's different from my usual practice with an AMD card? I'd usually uninstall the driver at the control panel, restart in safe mode, run DDU to clean out everything that might be left, restart in normal mode, then install the new drivers, restart again. Is that the proper drill for NVidia as well? Thanks.

I know the drivers can auto update but I'm not about all the extra gobbledegook bloat and I'd rather have control over what's happening. Besides, it's just another group of stuff to shut off IMO.

I've used the auto updater with my 970 the entire time I've had it, no issues so far.

For a new model like the 1060 new drivers are somewhat necessary to update. Your method of cleaning everything isn't bad at all. However, since you're sticking with the same make and model, a simplified approach might be enough for most of the updates, a more thorough maintenance cleaning done semi-annually or so. Also, only install the components you really need. For a regular monitor the 3D stuff isn't needed at all, for example.

Older cards won't necessarily get any benefit from updating the drivers so disabling the automatic features might be a good idea.

I'm running a 980GTX, but I update the driver manually, but I'm notified automatically. I try to stay current on the drivers.

I rarely down load updated drivers for gtx 680 it never looks any different AT all EVER wheni have done updates in the past.

All these update seem to do is mention other games that it will improve, if you play anything but AH you should be made to have a icon saying so in game. (A brown icon)

You might want to disable all the telemetry (fancy word for spyware) tracking.

Oh yeah that's a no brainer for both. I was just wondering if there was anything about the process of updating I oughta know. Seems I can just safely update without going thru so many hoops. Thanks all.

Heh, I installed "Geforce Experience" on all 4 of our desktops, and on my gaming laptop.  There is a method to this madness - on March 7 nVidia is giving away 108 1080tis in a contest to users registered and using Geforce Experience.  If I don't see I "hurray, you win" email by March 10th, it's adios GF Ex.

If you are on a really fast card, such as a 1070, or better, you probably will not know it until you get into a big furball.  It amounts to a few percentage points of performance being lost.

If you need to eek out the most performance you can, from your video card, then this is one thing that can go.

ugh, why would any of us need to "squeak out" anymore performance on video cards/systems rated WELL over what's being used to generate this game. I recall HT using a 980 and "all working well"...

You took that post in the wrong direction.  Some people want to squeeze out as much performance as they can from their hardware and hate giving up any performance to useless applications when running a game.

I am that way.  I hate software which chews up performance and brings zero benefit to the application I am running at the moment.

Use Geforce Experience and I record using its shadowplay ...in 4k.  I also use it to live stream...a difference in only a few FPS when I record is all I see....and when its 140-160 to start with not even noticable.

I also update using Geforce Experience.  Have it notifiy me, and then I update when I choose. 

I will usually use DDU once a year to "clean things up" (throw back to my old days), but unless I see queertrons, I usually don't bother with the "old style" of driver uninstall/install.

I found that using Geforce Experience to update required login with facebook, twitter, etc. None of which I subscribe to so I removed it. If there is any built in update process, I haven't found it but I haven't tried to visit their forums to look for an answer either.
