Going for some "minor" surgery tomorrow
« on: March 06, 2017, 12:13:19 AM »
Lots of fun to be had tomorrow I am sure.  Having my gall bladder removed due to a gall stone that insists on gifting me with the worst pain I can recall.  Not very enthusiastic about the whole thing to be honest, but it seems to be the best course of action.  First time going under full anesthesia too.  Got an Afghan friend coming up tomorrow to give me a ride down and back as it is an out patient procedure.  My wife was very uncomfortable with the idea of waiting alone in the hospital so we're very glad he'll be there for us.

Anyways, just wanted to vent my nerves a bit.  Goodnight all.

g/l karnak,  My missus had hers removed 2 weeks after giving birth to our daughter.  The procedure was pretty simple 4 small incisions and she was out same day.

she said the pain of the gallstones was worse than giving birth.   she was glad to have them out.  :D

Best of luck to you. BTW did the doc specify any dietary changes that will be necessary due to the removal? Just curious.

Been there done that got the scar!

I had what I thought was a tummy bug, missus eventually dragged me to the doctor (I had not been avoiding them, just didn't want to get out of bed). Doc poked me once, I screamed, they loaded me in a waaambulance.

At the hospital a drain was inserted (you think you have pain now... you know nothing). I was juiced up on antibiotics. They would re-assess in 4 weeks. This is standard procedure, though some doctors argue it should be removed immediately. For 3 weeks I walked around with a tube coming out my gut.

At the end of the 3rd week I went in for a scan, I told the radiologist the stuff in the bag had started to really stink funny. He said that was normal.  A few days later I started feeling really wrong, told me wife to take me to hospital - she went and had a shower while I kind of collapses. Waaambulance ride again.

Turns out my gall bladder had exploded, and gangrene had set in (yes gangrene deep inside me). I got an emergency gall bladder removal, got the big scar across ma belly (I tell my kids its from my pirate days). Then I picked up an E-Coli ESBL infection (antibiotic resistant super-bug), spent 24 hours in ICU, acquired pneumonia and almost had total renal failure. I then become a tour stop for the trainees, I think it was a case of 'here is one that survived!".

So take care, don't take your gall bladder infection lightly!

Thank God for friends. That will be a big help for your wife. I'm sure she is pretty stressed about it.

It will all go good!!
