CH manager and Win10
« on: March 10, 2017, 04:31:31 PM »
So today out of the blue game locks up, on reboot I get BSOD error chdrvr.sys  quick google and it doesn't make nice reading.

Had to un-plug my CH stuff to get onto desktop and then removed the CH manager.  However this has worked fine for months with no problems  :bhead.

Now I'm resorting to using windows to detect which was ok except for the throttle.  Changed the USB port and that is working again.

Was wondering what you guys are doing in this situation because it will be a PITA if I have to configure buttons everytime I login.

Are you using a powered USB hub?

I think one of those will solve issue

Sadly, after APEM bought CH they decided to pretty much abandon retail customer support.

Bruv, can you find an older release of the CH Manager? Some of the threads I see out there point to that as a possible band-aid fix.

Good luck.  :salute

heh, just read the title saying 10...

Anyhow, have you got the "fast startup" feature enabled? That may cause small glitches to accumulate until they create a real issue. It's simple to disable: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4189-fast-startup-turn-off-windows-10-a.html

One of the reasons I have yet to migrate over to Windows 10 is what a CH rep told me when Windows 10 was released.  What he told me was that CH Control Manager was not supported in Windows 10 and while they might add support, there weren't any current plans to and the proposed Windows 10 beta version of CM cancelled.  That's why I've been slowly switching out my CH gear and will probably replace my Combat Stick with either a Baur BRD-D (will allow me to use my Combat Stick handle) or one of the new VKB sticks and throttles coming out.

Ack-Ack, since I recall you having some sort of inside information about CH, how about running the CH Control Manager in Compatibility Mode? Would that solve any of the potential issues?

I'm asking this on behalf of other players, my only CH gear is a Mach2...

It may work in Windows 10 if you set compatibility mode to Windows 7 or 8.1 but I don't have a Windows 10 machine to test it on.

Bruv, out of curiosity, why do you feel the need to use CH Manager?

I stopped using it back when I switched from WinXP to Win 7...

I don't recall there being much AH couldn't do that ch manager could...outside of macros that is

I was using the rescan for devices button so win10 would recognise all 3 devices everytime I logged in.

I've started a few times and it appears win10 is actually remembering them now.  Maybe one of the updates improved that area from the initial upgrade.
