what if there's nobody on the range finder?

semp

If I were gunning and the only one on the ship - I'd go to the rangefinder first to get the initial bearing and range, and then go down to the turret and open fire.  It would certainly be a lot quicker then trying to eyeball it and correct those first salvos by the fall of your shot.

Then we would gun the old fashioned way and give them a load of guff over it when they returned.

Of course I would rather have a real rangefinder and gunsight on my turret, smoke rounds, pizza delivery and a waitress bringing me beer while I bombard the town, but I'll take what I can get.

I would love to be able to jump into the Fire Control Tower (FCT) and take control of all guns linked to it.  Don't limit it to just the 8" guns on the cruiser (and/or the 16" guns on the battleship), but to all guns that uses them.

I'll use current as example:  I jump to a TG because I see it's in range to shell something, so I'll pop into the FCT for the 8" guns and take control of them all.  If someone is already in there, then I'll have to choose a turret.  However, if someone is in the FCT and 3 folks come alone, only 2 of them will get a gun.  The 3rd gun will stay under the control of the person in the FCT, and he'll get the gun the other 2 don't choose.  Close enough to use the 5" guns, I can jump into the FCT for the 5" guns.  This will give me control of both manual and auto guns (it will NOT stop the auto-guns from shooting puffy, but will stop them from shooting "normal").  From there, I can start blasting away at a target.  Thing is, you can ONLY use HE while using the FCT for the CA.  You cannot switch to AA.  This is for balance than it is for historical.  Give me control of 2-4 twin 5" with proxy fuse....GG.  Eas side has 2 auto, while the 2 that are manual can fire either port or starboard.  If a person or two wants to take control of one or both of the 2 manual, they can.  The person in the FCT will still have control of the 2 auto's.  If there is a person in each side's FCT, port get's manual gun one and starboard get's manual gun two.

Not sure if the FCT helped control the single 5" guns around the deck of the Essex though.  I doubt it but...:headscratch:
