What happened to all of the Hetzers ?????
« on: March 16, 2017, 12:04:44 PM »
When the Hetzer came out it was probably the most popular GV. They were like the Toyota Prius'........ everywhere.
Allot of GV'ers were getting pretty good in them too.

Now, I rarely see one. I miss them allot. For a M-8 driver it is like seeing Chocolate Cake sitting on the kitchen counter and no one is around. :D :D

One aspect of the GV game in AH has changed.

Everything is funny as long as it is happening to somebody else.

Trees.

Xactly.

That's why Jagdpanther and Jagdpanzer IV have largely disappeared as well. Instead, the T-34/85 has become much more popular and successfull.

I still run, but I don't have the patience to sit and wait for someone to come along.

It was a tour de force in the old CraterMA tank crater.

Ho Heck.....I'm updating this post with an edit.

Ask your self what was the old craterMA tank crater and why it made using the three tank destroyers so popular. The turtle design is a wait and ambush tank taking advantage of terrain that forces regular tanks to drive in predictable locations. No one in this game uses roads and all the bushes and some smaller trees can be driven through. There is nothing to ambush if your target can drive around you. And if anyone built an MA terrain with ambush points limiting access to attack a town to those points. No one would spawn to that location.

The AH2 tank crater on CraterMA was a pit about 7000yds in diameter with tree lined galleries at three points around it. You could hide in those trees and lob rounds across to the other trees or, down into predictable places other tanks would spawn and drive through. You did not have to be a tank ace at navigating terrain like Dr7 to get kills camped in the tree covered gallery of that 7000yd wide pit. And there was enough cover in the pit to make spawning there worth the trouble. It also gave players an opportunity to learn tanks and get kills which encouraged them to take part in assaults on harder targets.

How many of you want to spawn anywhere in a tank that the spawn circle is an open field 3000yds in diameter? How many of you want to spawn somewhere with a minuscule chance of an enemy sitting there to blow you away? The old craterMA allowed everyone to spawn unmolested if they didn't want to spawn into the pit and get into a tree covered spot to start sniping. The glacis plate on the turtle design made them ideal to take a lot of rounds while firing out of those trees on the gallery.

I upped one the other night to escape the camping of a v-base because it was the only thing I could think of that had a good chance of taking a hit and keeping going.   It worked.
I am sold on the Hetzer -- even for open country GV hunting.
