Controller mapping issues (TrackIR related?)
« on: March 24, 2017, 07:23:50 AM »
So in getting back to AH after a several-year hiatus I finally had my controller mapping all set back up (Ch Combatstick, Throttle Quad, Pro Pedals on Win 10 machine) and everything working well. I flew several times in the arena with decent frame rates and no issues whatsoever with my controllers or mapping. (Good to be back btw!   :rock)

Then I had the bright idea of upgrading to TrackIR 5.

I think it is important to mention here that after adding TrackIR (the software and plugging in the cam) but before starting up AH again, I completely rewired all of my USB peripherals (mouse, keybd, drives, game controllers... the works) to different USB ports and a powered hub to clean up the mess.

While the TrackIR installed easily and seemed to instantly work in AH, when I jumped in a plane and went to take off I realized that all of my stick, throttle, and pedal mapping had changed. I thought perhaps there was a conflict with the TIR and my former stick/hat view settings, but all three of my controllers were now out of whack. When I tried to go back in and remap things the way they were, stranger things began to happen. For example, my throttle levers are now only recognized as buttons to map, rather than sliders, so I am unable to map the first four levers to engines 1-4 as I always have. Then, when trying to remap my pedals, I was able to select the correct functions (Rudder yaw and L&R brakes) but as soon as I rebooted and restarted AH those pedal settings had changed to "Not Assigned".  I tried unplugging the TrackIR, rebooting (without running the TrackIR software in the background either) and restarting AH, and the same condition persists: stick and pedal mapping keeps magically changing to an unflyable mess and I am unable to remap my trusty Throttle Quad as the sliders are only recognized as buttons.

Could swapping USB ports be the culprit of my controller issues? I didn't think it mattered where they were plugged in once they were inititally recognized but thought it was worth mentioning.

Seemingly so close to TIR glory, and now I can't even fly at all, even with TIR out of the loop.  :headscratch:

 TIA for any suggestions!  :salute

When you move your controllers to different USB ports you have to remap them.

The option to use min, mid, and max analog movement as button presses is a new addition to analog programming.  You can still set the axis like you used to. You probably scrolled past the option you wanted.

Make sure your USB ports are always on in control panel power options.

Please explain.

Please explain.

I mean it's new to Goob since he's been away for a while.   :D

For example, if you have a throttle lever you couldn't originally map it to "flaps up" and "flaps down". Flaps up and down are button press commands not analog commands like "throttle" or "trim elevator".
With min, mid, and max, you can use 3 parts of the lever range as button presses. For flaps you might set min to "flaps down", mid to "none", and max to "flaps up".

This lets you have flap levers and gear levers instead of button presses.

Thanks for the replies! That all makes perfect sense but is there any way my .jsm files are somehow corrupted (or confused?  :O)  I ask because whereas before when I moved my throttle levers the mapping utility recognized them as imputing an axis range, now they only correspond to buttons. E.g. The first lever on the far left is now only activating buttons 13 and 14, rather than a letter axis. I will have to go back and check but I dont think it lets me select analog movement as an option for throttle anymore. As well, every time i go in and change my pedal setting back to normal (yaw and brakes), which it seems to still allow, when I reload it comes back as right brake set to yaw (!) and the other two axes "not assigned." Hence, mapping seems to be no longer saving correctly either.

is there any way to reset controllers completely without reloading the entire AH? Might that get things back in order, or am I missing something as an old newby?  :old: Thanks again!

Mapping issues solved. The USB switching seems to have been the culprit. Total reinstall of everything and I'm good to go with controllers and TrackIR. Thanks again for the responses!
