Pickup Missions - Mission Briefing & Field Maps
« on: March 28, 2017, 10:10:59 AM »
I wish that when building a pickup mission, somehow using the clipboard maps and mission way-points, I'd like to stipulate and/or assign targets to slots in the pickup mission.

As a joiner to the mission when I look at my clipboard map of arena I see the mission way-point for my flight. It would be nice at a glance of either the arena map, or some "CurrentlyActivePickupmision Map" that indicated via simple annotations what targets I should focus on.

I"m probably explaining this poorly in words and beautifully in my head.....

Join an "Attack" mission; select bombers; clipboard map shows my way-points (using auto-climb stats for given ride), way-points show where the flight would reach 10k, 15k, 20k, and furthermore, when I look at my clipboard map "ACTIVE MISSION", it would show simple annotations indicating my targets.  Is this even possible?

I hope I"m getting the idea across at least...  Just curious how difficult something like this would be to implement..

I just think it'd be the cat's behind having the ability for a pickup mission leader (or FSO, or scenarios) to be able to provide details that would otherwise be discussed on range en route to target...

You can set the waypoints.  As long as the mission joiners open the clipboard, right click on the map then select "my flight" the route will show up on their maps.

Times and altitudes will not show up.  No way to set that up.

In the MAs I don't see many doing that.  But that would be gold in FSO & scenarios.

For now, I run test flights for FSO and put it all on a map I send to my squad pre FSO.

Yeah I saw the way-points, which are very cool. Love'em.... Just wanted to expand on them a bit with (very generic and not exact) auto-climb altitudes, and then with target endpoints of some kind. Similar to the mouse over popup maybe? a small text window saying "Attack Hangers", or "Attack Ord Bunkers"... something of the like...

I was going a bit deep in wanting to be able to edit a temporary copy of a clipboard map for marking up.... Think Numbers or letters over top of a base layout... even the ability to make circles on the image circle A - bombers target, circle B - Jabo's target....

I know it's a stretch, but it popped in my head as something that would add to immersion to missions. And an easy way for mission generators to provide information on mission without typing all out or vox hogging.  :salute

The ability to free sketch on the map as part of the mission would be nice. Just some free text or shapes to indicate various things would be handy.

The ability to assign specific targets at a field would be an awesome detail to add.

yeah, some simple annotations would add another level. Not required, thus the wish...

I just really like the Pickup Mission when you can get pilots into it. Lol  tough when everyone's mom is calling them from the sandbox!

Pickup missions with people in it are almost as rare as the meteor mk. III

Starting a pickup mission is a pain due to some glitch causing loadouts to get all screwed up. I'll select a B-17 but the ords/fuel options may be shown for a P-51D.

I've noticed something else about current pickup missions, when you look at them (at least for me), the planner's name is on top of the mission description, not it the box where you are suppose to see it. :headscratch:

Would be awesome if you could set a skin for each set of planes, and take off times for each in the mission planner as well. :aok

I also experienced this issue... I had to re-select some elements; it's almost as if when loaded, the correct items are shown but only overtop of what is actually selected.

I found opening the drop down and simply moving the mouse over another aircraft then back to what you want it saves the selection appropriately. I found this more with the selected field than with the aircraft. But i did experience what you're describing.  :headscratch:

this works in the staged missions. I am in the process of doing some large scale staged missions that will involve briefing's and clipboards and all that stuff. I know for a fact right now, when in the staged mission, your flight plan is in the clipboard map. the minute you join it, you will have access to it, as part of the mission. if not in the mission, you just get the normal clipboard map.

Like the AvA there the other night? I liked the map having mission way points, and the "briefing" that occurs shortly before being put into flight.

lol Jaeger, aside from flying at stall speeds and crashing my bloated A20 after the first turn, kewl AvA mission.  :salute

ive since fixed that and upped the speeds on the planes. I have a pretty good handle on it now, and will be working on some very large, complex missions. I just need to figure out the briefings and how they work. I know how to open the curtain..... that's it!! LOL

Never mind the man behind the curtain....   :devil   Keep up the good work, I can see those as the clear evolution to the "Pickup Missions".
