OK.  Here's a few of mine.  So many to choose from, so in no particular order:

1) The first time I won a fight against someone who I thought “man, I hope I’m as good as them someday”.  Especially when they gave me a <S> or “Fun fight!” on 200 after a good win.  That is always a nice benchmark.  I have a folder with a handful of these types of films and they are fun to look back at from time to time.

2) You always know you’ve arrived when you start getting accused of nefarious things, so one of my favorite moments was the first time I got a PM saying “You have all the Bish discussing whether or not you use an aimbot.”  That is a funny form of “achievement” but  memorable none the less.

3) Going from running some informal gunnery training for my squad, to helping out random people in the TA, to eventually being asked to be an official AH Trainer.  Part of that process was being vetted and approved by several long-time AH players for whom I have the utmost respect – to be asked to be a peer among them was a big honor.

4) The first time a player who I trained said “Hey, I’ve been using that technique we trained on and I got X kills doing it!  It totally works!  Thanks!”  Those are probably the proudest moments in game – being told someone is having more fun because of something you did to help them.

Oh, and here’s a funny one (as that seems to be a running theme).  Not so much an achievement as a funny story:

Most long-time AH players know that flying with a squad and razzing each-other on vox is some of the most fun you can have in the game.  And a common thing to do is to try to have each squad member land at least 2 kills all together as a squad.

On one of these particular squad nights my Wingman(Lead at the time) could only manage assists after his first kill.  He just couldn’t get to 2.  Everyone else had 2 or more and we were are all trying to set him up, but to no avail.  No matter how many times we dragged cons or let him attack first or whatever we tried he couldn’t get kill #2.  We even had enemies auger, but the guy dragging would get the proxy!  This just made us laugh harder and naturally the ribbing was brutal.  This just made matters worse (as we all know flying frustrated is the worst way to get kills).

Finally we are flying around as a group of I think 6, and here we come across this Yak climbing from a base -- and clearly he’s AFK.  “There’s your chance,” we say.  “Go get him (squad-mate who will remain nameless)!”    Finally he will have 2 kills (as he was carrying one).

So, he dives in, starts shooting, and there is the “explosion puff” of a plane!  Our squad-mate disappears while the Yak is still there.  So eager to get that kill, our squaddie collided and blew up!  Meanwhile the Yak flies off.  And to make matters worse, the Yak got the proxy kill on our squad-mate!  We are all howling with laughter on vox, which almost drowns out our squaddie, who is reciting every curse known to man.  We still laugh about that one from time to time.

Sometimes it’s just not your night.

This is from 2008 (I think) I wrote about me in the AvA doing a bombing run on a CV and my wife's interpretation of what I was doing (quoted word for word)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last night while I was flying, my wife came over to see what the commotion was about - the screen was looking like I was flying in a Ki-67 through a black fog bank with loud sounds of flak impacts and the odd crash of something breaking.  It peaked her interest and she came over and hovered behind me for a bit.

We had an interesting conversation that sounded like a Gilmore Girls episode.

----
"What's all those black little clouds?" she asked

"Black death - flak"

"You know, that plane was probably flown by 19-20 year olds who were scared out of their wits."

"These were Japanese boys"

"Fine, Japanese boys. Is the terror any different?"

"It's all about immersion"

I hopped into the bomb site to re-calibrate before my drop.

"What's this?"

"the bombsite" (calibrating)

"are those the ships?"

"Yep"   At this point, my lead bomber explodes (it must of been on fire) and I'm suddenly in the next plane.  You can see my former lead plane exploding with wing parts and other debris raining on the other planes in formation with loud bangs from the impacts.

"Did you just blow up?"

"My lead bomber did"  - back into the bombsight again..  Background sound is just crazy as the plane is being shaken like a toddler with a bug in a jar.  I'm trying to calibrate but I just can't get a view because of the flak.  I decide to change tactics and hop back into the pilot seat.

"What are you doing now?

"I'm diving"

"Why are you diving?"

"Change of plans."

"Are you commiewazine..um... what do you call it?"

"Kamikaze - maybe. I can't get a clear shot to calibrate my bombsite. So we're now dive bombing."

Now all the ships in the CV group have opened up their lazer cannons on me, suddently, my right bomber explodes, in the message bar, states 1Duke1 shot me down for the 'second' time.  Ruh roh - dukie's in the 5 inch and I missed that in my first death.  The first was no flak death.  I should of been paying closer attention to the message bar.

"Crap"

"What?"

"Dukes in the 5 inch."

"Who?"

"Duke" - I hear a loud smack from another 5" impact and switch to external view with the typical parts flying off sound - I switch to a F3 view

"your plane is missing part of your tail"

"I know" another smack and I switch back to cockpit and bring up the damage list

"a lof of your systems are red. Is that bad?"

"Yes"

"Is this a now a Kamakzie dive?"

"Yes"

"Are those young boys in your plane going to die?"

"What?" - now I'm in a full fledged non-stop dive.  I can hear the wings creaking. I switch back to F3 view.

"You know, the japanese boys flying your bomber?  Oh, there goes a wing"

"I know"

"You're plane is falling apart"

"I know" - another smack from the 5".

"your plane is on fire"

"I know" - I'm off target and I know that I'm never going to hit with around 1500 feet left. I decide to eject

"Did you get thrown out of your plane?"

"No, I ejected"

"Like that?"

"Like that."

"Wow, that ship is big."

"Its an aircraft carrier."

"The one you were trying to bomb?"

"The one"

"So what do you do now?"

"Swim for home?" - I land in the water

"You're funny.  This game is boring.  Oh look, is the aircraft carrier going to run you over?"

"Yep"

"I'm off to read a book.  Enjoy the carrier being imprinted on your forehead"

-------
Isn't this game AWESOME when our better half's nag us while we play?   :x

That is a fantastic story, thank you very much for sharing it.

My wife a couple years ago was talking with on of her friends about doing something the following Friday night.  I only heard my wife's side of the conversation but it was this:

"No, my husband won't be coming, he flies on Friday nights"

pause

"No, he's not a commercial pilot"

pause

"No, it's not like that, he only flies to kill other people"

loooooooooooong pause

"giggling"

1. Back in AH2, I was at a field running in a T34 from one of our spawns to our town.  There was an enemy T34 running out to the spawn I had come from, but about 2400 yds lateral from me.  We were both full speed, opposite directions, separated by 2400 yards.  As I was aiming for him, and judging lead, I took a shot when he was at my 9 o'clock, but as I fired I one of those grey bombed out houses popped up about 500 yards out.  With both of us at full speed, my round went through the window of the house and nailed the guy in the turret.

2. Using an HVAP round on a Lancaster 3,000 yards away.

3. Using an 88 round on a B24 8,800 yards away.

4. Using a 37 mm round from a Yak 9T on a N1K1 1,800 yards away.

Not my achievement, but was a memorable moment....

A squadie, DILLIGAF, was flying a Seafire and dove on a field to vultch the runway just as a mission launched -- 21 kills with one shot.    :rofl

Just one of many, but probably the first time I thought I was finally getting good at the game:

I was in an FM-2 and got bounced by 3 P-47's. They kept trying to boom and zoom me, but I used the FM's superior turning to avoid their attacks and get a few shots in. The fight progressed to the deck and I got one to auger, although I took some serious damage in the process. The other two kept coming at me and I managed to down one of them with guns, although by this time I was missing quite a few parts. The last guy tried to finish me off and it became a contest of who could keep their wreck flying the longest. I kept peppering him with rounds as he made passes and he kept chopping parts off my plane. Finally managed to get him slow enough to turn on him and got one last good burst to bring him down. When it was over, I was missing gear and at least 2 control surfaces...I had 1 working gun left with maybe a dozen rounds.  Managed to ease that bird down on the runway for my very first 3v1 victory.

Thus began a lifelong love affair with the FM-2 Wildcat. She's reliable, tough, and she will get you home after you've done something incredibly stupid. Can't ask for anything more.

I did something very similar years back. I was in a Hog and dropped one bomb on a CV just as a bunch was spawning. I got 10 kills instantly.

In all the years I have been here there are so many interesting, exciting, and funny things I have seen and done, there is just no way (short of a book) to list them.

I was in b17s on a pork run when I noticed a large amount of planes on the runway...aborted pork run and dropped the whole stick down the length of the runway. Got the entire mission as it was upping...interesting bunch of PMs on that one lol.

Way back when I first started in AH2 and was in JG44 we had been trying to nab a base and after dropping on town I had my 110 at the field vulching. Was in the high teens on kills and thinking I was a big shot with my vulching when the field guns popped....da man to Swiss cheese in two seconds lol.

Battle over Germany 12 Hour Scenario. Hands down the best time I've had in AH. Starting the first 3-4 hours outnumbered 3 - 1, and it came down to the last raid in the last hour. It was great, I only wish we had a better run in our 190s to hit the bomber stream.
