Terrain Settings and Customization Down and Dirty
« on: April 13, 2017, 08:06:37 PM »
Alot of people wonder how to turn things on or off
How to reduce or increase the seen Icon Range.
How to drop ack lethality and other things.  So here is a complete rundown of all of the terrain settings.

NOTE: This is a work in progress and I will be going over EVERYTHING in the terrain settings.

First Need To Know
1 Sector = 25 Kilometers Respectively
A Plane flying 250 True - Indicated Speed is not effected - will transverse this sector in 2.5 Minutes
Fuel Burns - in Main Arenas It is set to 2.0 meaning twice the amount of fuel consumed.
in Training Arena This is set to 1.0 so you can take 50% less fuel and have the same time in air.
*Note: Fuel adds weight to aircraft so in the TA it is actually lighter at 25% than at 50% but you get double the amount of time in that weight class.

For this Terrain we will use BUZZSAW, Since there seems to be a lot of hatred for it.

Quick Settings

Offline Drones
Settings for these are found in Options > Arena Setup > Offline Drones
The Checkboxes Turn them off or on
The Dropdowns allow you to select Plane type or Vehicle

We will discuss things that you can change while In the Terrain First.  These are CM Tools

CM Tools - What Campaign Managers Use, CM is an Acronym for Campaign Manager
Under Offline Mode - go to Options > Arena Settings > CM Tools

First Thing is First, Lets Make a New Arena Table
Click On Arena Tables and in the left column, select Add New.
Now lets give it a name.

BuzzsawC - For Custom

Now We are done with CM Tools For Now, Unless you want to Enable / Disable Weapons for Aircraft or add an MOTD
So lets look at that MOTD.

MOTD Settings

You must first Create a Text File in C:>HitechCreations>Aces High III> motd
name this file buzzC1

Enter your text, and then save.

Next in the MOTD Settings under CM Tools enter the filename exactly as it appears
*Note It is Case Sensitive and must have the extension .txt with it.

To Test the MOTD, go to the Main Clipboard Page and Click O'Club then Arena Message

Now Lets take a look back in the Options Under Fields

You can select the Field you want and change the country, or give the Orginal Country back to whatever you want.

You can also disable a Plane for that field.

Object Settings

Hardness and Downtimes can be set here for objects.
If you have custom objects then they may not be in here unless you have added them in the terrain.

Explanation of Hardness

If a 1000lb bomb were to hit a target with 1 on the hardness, that would mean that 1 1000lb bomb would have to hit directly in it
a hardness of .75 would allow for splash damage

Example Hangers have a Hardness of 2.7813 to allow for splash damage from bombs and rockets.  It would take 3 Rockets and 2 1000lb bombs to destroy a hanger.

The Destroy Objects settings is great for mapping different guns, Town Objects and AAA objects for CV and BB Gunnery with the 8 inch to tell you where you have hit in relation to other buildings objects etc.

Radars and Altitudes

Unit of Measure - Feet
1 Mile = 5280 Feet

Default Setting 12 Miles - or 63360feet

Radar Alt - Altitude in Feet of which to show an ICON

1 sector used to be 25 miles across, not kilometers.
When did it change?  Or have I always been mistaken?

All military maps are in clicks or kilometers.

Radars are in feet,

speeds are in MPH because President Carter abandoned the Metric System push for our country.

it may be in miles, interesting as you caught that , an ac traveling at 100 feet agl 250mph would transverse the sector in 2.5. mins.

so the unit of measure would be a mile

   According to this thread:

http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php?topic=377413.0

  And this page:

  http://www.hitechcreations.com/the-game-interface/using-the-clipboard

  A sector is 25 miles.

A plane flying at 300 MPH True Air Speed, will cross a sector in 5 minutes.  I just confirmed this in game.

...

250/10 =25. 60/10 = 6.

Just scratching the surface of how deep HTC has optimized arena settings to make it user friendly so we can create setups for special events or for anyone to setup a custom arena. (which actually reminds me i need to get the match play working for KOTH)

A lot of people don't know this but the command .help brings up a decent list of the dot commands we have in game.

Years ago Hitech corrected me about units of measure in his world. Everything is in Hitech units.

From Hitech back then:

1 mil is  1 unit wide at 1000 dist.

I.E. the angle of 1 yard at 1000 yards. Or 1 meter at 1000 meters , or 1 inch at 1000 inches.

Speeds are in MPH because all US Aircraft of that day used MPH and not Knots.  Today the FAA mandates that all Speed be displayed in Knots.
