Considering a new CPU?

I run Windows 7 Teleradiology software using the latest version of VMWare on a Windows 10 system and also on a Mac using Fusion. I just bought a new PC with an i7-7700k to be able to play AH and also use it for work. We will be updating the TeleRad software to Win 10 hopefully this year. I wonder if it will affect Win 7 updates even though it is running on a virtual machine.

That does not fix the problem of no support for the new CPU's/chipsets in anything other than Windows 10 and Linux.

Sure, you might be able to run the generic drivers, but then you give up a lot of performance to do so and some things will simply break with no way to fix it.

So no Ryzen/Kaby Lake for Win7. Some Skylake will support Win7.

So which CPU do we grab now that is at a very good price/performance ratio?

You better hurry if you want a Windows 7 CPU, as Intel and AMD are killing everything not supported by Windows 10.

I am just going to sit on mine, but I am not in bad shape with an i7-4770K.

I was looking to upgrade my 3570K , but now im hesitate . Wondering if a 4th or 5th gen is worth the upgrade from mine running 4.5 ghz? I will not run windows 10.

Get a 6700K.  Just as good as a 7700K if you don't overclock, and nearly as good if you do.

That said, I don't think the difference in Aces High would be very noticeable, but you might have other reasons to upgrade.

Other games like Ashes of Singlularity win on a CPU many cores-

I can run all my games on a 4690 OC to 4.2 without bottlenecks in CPU , with a NVIDIA 780.

going with the 7700K and some windows10. Future proof. Only reason I had for keeping Win7 was the windows media center issue. I just dumped cable TV, so I won't be using my tuner anymore and have no real reason not to upgrade OS.

If you go Win 10 then 7700K is a dead end, Ryzen offers far more bang (and cores) for the buck.

What? Just more cores, but less bang. Especially for gaming. Even for the buck.
