How to remove prop blade.
« on: April 15, 2017, 12:06:15 PM »
Anyone know how to get the remove the blades from the hub on a McCauley C/S prop?  I've got an old prop from my 182 that I would like to pull the blades from to use as art.  I haven't been able to find anything on line, the local prop guy was less than enthusiastic about doing it for me (wtf, he gets shop rate?).

My link is bit more on the realistic side, little less of the "reality tv" fantasy flavor I guess.   :old:

Not that it will help much...... We just took the entire prop off and sent it to a certified repair station. We didn't try to deal with it as rebuilds etc. were kinda specialized.

IIRC it is a retaining ring assembly. Remove the ring and push in and twist to release the inner retainer.

However, this is from deep in the recesses of time (1990 ish) so I may be full of AH FM.

That's what I assume...can't be all that hard but I'm not seeing it.  Getting things apart usually comes easy, it's the re-assembly that can be challenging. :)

If it's "on the locks" you'll need a prop paddle to release it. There will still be coniderable stored energy in the springs. What model is it? I'll see if I can find some documentation.

Called the prop shop again, this time talked to the nice receptionist.  She accepted the job, I'm dropping it off this afternoon. :)

Thanks gents
