Make "room" chat also visible to people in "range"

I had this wrong the entire time I've played AH (off and on since circa 2001).  I thought "Room" and "Range" were interchangeable and referred to the same thing.  I supposed having them the same color reinforced that misconception.

So "Room" is more like the Tower Frequency of the field lifted off from?

Often the players in the area came from the same base as you, and this is the reason that "range" and "room" are confused.

I would think that you would not have to tune a channel to range to see it; just like you don't have to tune a channel to room, to see it.

I thought you had to have one of your channels set to room in order to see it, just like help or 200 or whatever.

IIRC, you see the help text and room text regardless of being tuned to it. I think country is the same.

That seems confusing. I mean if you're in the tower coming up with a mission and people are busy picking their plane and loadouts, it seems like they should be able to communicate

Pre-launch for FSO often found me going to the hangar or the O'Club so I didn't have to listen to all the chatter in the tower. I think it's a good thing that they are separate rooms.

A room channel is just that, to speak with people in the same room as you.

There's always channels 100-299. If you're worried the spies  , then use 100-199.

 I'm not worried about spies more than I'm worried about not being able to talk to someone because I'm in the tower and they are in the hangar.

I feel like this is being made more difficult than what it is. Establish a mission channel on country, then use that mission channel to communicate.

No the while idea is to not require a mission channel but simply have a range text channel that mirrors the range voice channel.

That wouldn't fix this....

I'm not worried about spies more than I'm worried about not being able to talk to someone because I'm in the tower and they are in the hangar.

Why not just use country text?

So as to not spam country channel. When you see the purple text you know it's applicable to the local situation. How many times have people written something like "wirbl in town" or "hi 51 over the field" on country but then you arent sure which town or base.
