This guy did a fine job of demonstrating all the things not to do with a Mustang.  By the way, I recently learned that a new prop for a Mustang is in the vicinity of $100,000.

I've seen the video with audio.  The wife is literally laughing and cackling as she watches him land his plane.  Either she didn't realize the danger he was in, or didn't care. 

So the prop was spinning when it hit too.  What kind of engine maintenance does that require?

Some new prop blades and a complete engine rebuild.    Not a cheap screwup.

Not always an engine build.  There was no stoppage, low power so perhaps no damage to the crank.

A couple of the boys lets the B-17 get away from them on takeoff at Santa Barbara when the tailwheel lock pin sheared.  They hit a runway/taxiway sign with the prop on #2 cleaving the sign in half.  With the local Fed in attendance the crank runout was mic'd and found in tolerance.....continued to aviate.

I will defer to you, but I think the crank is toast.    I wouldn't be surprised if he hit the prop on the bounce, too.  It was close.   Blades alone are enough to make my wallet wince.

In my experience; not many people have the "scratch" to own, let alone maintain and operate a P51. Often wondered if those that can front the money, also pay for the training and experience to handle a high performance tail dragger.

I wonder did he land short or does that roadway actually cross the runway....that was quite a bump.  I've hit some like that landing on gravels bars and such but on a runway....seems a bit silly.  Pilot did a good job not screwing things up further by trying any heroics.

Looked it up, landed "off airport".  So that road was actually a taxiway before the runway started.  You can tell by the sound he cut (or lost) power early.

That big belch of smoke looked bad...
