After two consecutive weeks now of hearing this as well as increasing frequency in the past, I've decided to post a call for better behavior in FSO.  In particular, I'm hearing (and personally noticing) that squads are not following the orders of the CiC and instead they are doing whatever they feel like.  When you are a CiC, this is very frustrating and you just want to stop putting any effort into planning missions at all.  When you are a squad leader depending on other squadrons to do something related to your mission, it's confusing as hell.

FSO is about theater level organized combat simulating historical military events.  In the military, you receive orders and you follow them.  If you don't like the orders or disagree with them, you can discuss that with your commanding officer, but if the commanding officer disagrees, you follow them anyway.  Good or bad, the orders a CiC comes up with are meant to be followed unless they specifically say they are suggestions.

If you aren't going to participate in the organized event as intended, then go back to the MA where you are free to do as you please.  Otherwise, please follow the orders the CiC sends out.  The CiC will appreciate that.  Fellow squadron leads will appreciate that.  Who knows, we might all learn something new as well.

To all you other CiCs out there who put in the work to try to achieve objectives under adverse conditions, I salute your effort and pledge that the C-Hawks will try to follow orders as best we can and if we ever do object or have suggestions for other options, we will always seek approval before doing anything other than what the orders say.  To all the flight leads, I pledge we will follow orders of the designated flight lead (fighter lead, bomber lead as appropriate).  If flight lead orders conflict with the CiC's orders, I may ask about it, but will follow the flight leads orders and let them take it up with the CiC.

A bigger concern regarding participation would be the frequency in which the chosen CiCs are not getting any orders out and at the last minute some one has to step up and knock some orders out.

From your CMs.  THIS IS GOING TO STOP.  I know people spend time making their orders pretty.  From the CM standpoint we just want the orders out on time and in some form of coherent medium.  I am a really laid back guy.  But once I get to the point where punitive action is required, the results aren't pretty.  From the CMs: Santa knows who has been naughty and nice.  Please err on the side of nice. PLEASE.

Ok, so I broke the CM rules and posted while I was angry.  Let me explain further.  As CMs, we donate our time to you.  That is it.  Plain and simple.  As an FSO CM you can't fly about 4 mos out of the year because you run the event.  Building an arena for Frame 1 takes about 3 hours to build and 3 hours to run.  Frames 2 & 3 are easier . . .  unless you have a map rebuild (like we did for Frame 3.)  As CMs we donate hours of our time so that you can have a good time on Friday night.  We try to be thick skinned . . . The event you just ran has been in the planning stage for months.  Admins will debate the smallest details. . .  and then get criticized for it.  So, you KINDA understand how we get frustrated if your squad can't crank out orders twice a year.  If the CMs approached their role with that same degree of dedication, FSO wouldn't make it past Frame 2 next month.  We are not looking for a Thank You.  We are not looking for a Well Done.  We are just looking for the orders on time.  I feel better. . . I really do.  I know, I know, Warloc, you want to see me . . . Time to get chewed . . .

Thank You; Well Done.

I could say more about what I feel has been happening to the player base over the last couple of years, but that doesn't belong here...and isn't really my style.

Have to agree, the Staff are not thanked enough, personally I only fly FSO / Scenario / CC these last few years, and I enjoy every frame of the events, <S> everyone who gives their time to make those events a success.

I appreciate your kindness.  I didn't mean this last post to be "a Salute to the CM team."  It was a Mea Culpa  for my breaking the CM rules and posting while I was angry.  Trust me, every CM that read the first post would have warned me: "Now Pliss, you know we don't post when we are angry."  I know that was their response because that is how I trained them.  While your kind words are always appreciated, we find our thanks in other areas.  We feel justified when there are 225 players ready for an FSO launch.  Our job was worth it when 100 players appeared for Combat Challenge.  We are thankful when all the players are on roster prior to launch.  Even if an event breaks, we huddle up and ask: "Did we break it?"  Those are the rewards a CM seeks.  I just sent that second response to indicate we get frustrated when a squad can't produce orders.  Step up your game, work as hard as we do.

I'm grateful to the staff and I know my COs Jaeger and Alpo (JG54) dutifully execute orders and likewise appreciate the staff and the events.

I don't think I'm speaking out of turn when I speak for them here - and they'll correct me if I'm wrong. I can't remember a time when we didn't talk about how best to execute our orders, that being the object of the game for the squad in FSO.

It is, in fact, an important part of historical play that sometimes... you're placed under orders in a situation you may not like. That goes for the choice of aircraft and the mission to be executed. At those times, it's not yours to reason why, it is yours to do and (possibly) die (and who hasn't had a doomed mission?).

My kudos go to the staff... MA is fun, but FSO injects the discipline of scenario play, and thus adds a dimension that I would hate to see us lose.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to discuss the weekly frame and orders on a forum just like this instead of having the discussion we are having now?

MAJOR issue I see with the idea of a BBS (Forum) to discuss the orders is that it becomes a "PULL" system.

Over the last 1.5 decades of FSO, I've seen it hard enough to get the "PUSH" system of mass emails to get looked at and responded to.

Perhaps I'm biased, but I just don't see any effective plus to what I believe would become an asymmetric discussion by a few folks about what they want the frame to look like.   It is the CiC's job to make those decisions and tell us what he/she wants done.

I'd say the easiest way to have the frame go as one wishes would be to volunteer to be CiC for ALL frames--"You decide, and then you get to absorb the flak from folks that believe their idea would be better"

And yes, I am aware that this idea has been floated and didn't pick up steam already once this year, but I sense that there is a fervent belief that it would be better--so far I can't agree.

However, I am willing to try to understand the thought process.
