In its day it was the most realistic Historical WW2 game creation MMO.
We got to the point where we had forward observers calling in targets for our aircraft. We had massed infantry/armor attacks with air defense and even airplanes acting as spotters. I can remember attacks where we'd drop 100 para's onto a town and spend all night fighting for it.
This was a long time ago. Back then I'd live on Red Bulls and rotate from BFBC2 to Aces High to WW2OL. It was digital heaven, all bases were covered. As a pure flight game AH was always my favorite, both AH and WW2OL move at a pace I like. These FPS's now move so fast theres no time for strategy, if someone isn't sticking a shiv in your back while your trying to look at the map then its some code cheat blowing your head off from 1,000 yrds away. I bought BF1 but its turning out to be a dog and as a flight game these FPS's really blow.
The IL2 series has a nice look to it but every time I open it it has a very small online componant and I have no interest playing offline in any game against AI. Aces High has always been cool since you need to actually know how to use the strengths of your airframe vs the strengths and weakness's of other airframe's and since there are so many possible match ups you never got bored. Its not the same now either because one see's only a very small % of the modeled airframe's actually used. LOL I remember when the i16 and the Brewster came out and we all spent weeks just battling those two up in the cold air over Finland. Good times.
