35th Americas Cup
« on: May 31, 2017, 07:23:50 AM »
What an amazing spectacle.

Opening day officially was supposed to be the day before (last Friday) but there was too much wind, so they delayed it a day.

I know many will say "This isn't real sailing" etc. but next week the J Class Boats arrive for their regatta followed by a Tall Ship Regatta.  You just cannot get more "Real sailing" than that.

The foiling boats are fast and sleek though, amazing to watch.

I prefer the traditional boats but todays AC is sailing, no doubt.

WTH are those guys pedaling?  Is that for winches?

The sailing is more competitive than ever.

Speaking of them:

This was the Swedes and French heading on to the course:

Oracle Team USA went right past us too but my phone had switched to selfy mode and I couldn't see where the button was to get it back.  Really annoying.

The wife and I watched it from this:) :

Some cool on board and helicopter stuff from yesterday.

Kiwis now leading!  They had the first race in which one of the boats was on the foils for 100% of the race.  Start to finish.  Amazing.

Day 8 wrap up:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGkJqy9P_qg

Oracle wins series and now sits it out until the finals, France out.  Love the "merci Bermuda" on the wing.

Kiwis choose BAR...be good to get rid of BAR early...they want the Cup back in Portsmouth.  Can't have that.  I am a big Oracle fan because Ellison said he'd keep the Cup here next time. :aok

Normally not my thing, but holy crap you cannot look away from those boats when they're on their foils at top speed. It's really racing on the edge.

NZ goes up 2-1 after the Artemis Team Sweden skipper went overboard.  Typical Kiwis (they are all Kiwis pretty much...lol...like Hockey players and Canada).  "Where have you been?", when he makes it back to the boat.  Surprised there wasn't an f-bomb in there too.  lol

So this is happening soon.

http://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/2017/06/09/twenty-teams-for-americas-cup-superyacht-regatta/

Our little guesthouse is hosting the crew (and their chef) for the next two weeks of Hanuman.

https://y.co/yacht/hanuman

I met a couple of the organizers and they invited us for a *ride* in their chase boat.  They did warn us though....out at 5am, not back until 2pm under ANY circumstances.  No way my wife could handle that and I turned down the offer too.  I have watched the chase boats get chucked about in the Great Sound.  These guys will be practicing and racing offshore.  I predict a vomitorium.  No thanks.  They also off handily offered a ride on the yacht.  I have asked my wife to check and see if they were serious because I can go on Tuesday.  I don't care if I am seasick all day, it is an opportunity I can't past up.  What a ride that would be.  Trying not to get hopes up too much waiting for a response.
