Stuka dive bomber
« on: May 31, 2017, 04:30:13 PM »
I would like to see the Formation feature added to the Stuka Dive Bomber. If there is a way to keep the Stuka Formation intact during the dive bomb run. Otherwise no reason if they cannot run in together.

None of the versions we have had the Trumpet, it was only the B-1 that had them.

This. The jericho trumpet systems were replaced early on in the stuka line in favor of whistles attached to the bomb's fins; much less drag, no constant high pitched noise to distract the pilots even during level flight and the whistles could be added to almost any of the bombs carried by the luftwaffe.  There use to be some sound packs that traded the in game standard "high wind noise" for the wail of a jericho trumpet, but it was a file set a player had to download and replace the default files with (USRanger's sound pack if I remember right)
The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.

no drones for planes without a level bomb sight. Dive bombers do not bomb in formation because the do pinpoint attacks - not carpet bombing.

Also, enough with the 3 lives thing. You want wingmen? get 2 players to fly with you.

Dive bombers also dove bombed in formation.  The Japanese dive bombers would often dive in a Vic formation.  I just read a book about the invasion of Singapore and there are many British soldier accounts of watching formations of Japanese dive bombers diving in Vic formation, dropping their bombs on the British roadway convoys.  One account described the dive bombing Japanese pilots as "diving in formation as though they were on Sunday parade, without fear of being opposed in the air".

That is a stupid way to attack a road convoy.
If they dive aligned with the road,  formation members will miss to the left or the right. If they dive in a direction perpendicular to the road they are all likely to miss.

Seems like it would be a fairly effective tactic to me if they also wanted to inflict casualties on the ground troops that would most likely seek cover to either side of the road

but still -1 to drones for any dive bombers, would be nice to see a formation option added to the TBM and B5N though
