now if I can only get a idea stuck in my head that will make me money that would be great. <S>

Most folks were and are right handed. From long ago we mounted our horses, and still do, from the left side. This keeps the right hand free for grabbing your pistol should you need it. This just carried over. The art of shaking hands was always done right handed in a gesture of trust towards the other gent.

All that being said..... I am left handed and acquire targets and shoot just as quick right handed as left.

And swords, when they eventually had the technology to make those  :old:

As for left side traffic, Sweden used to have that, too, until 1967. Rumour tells that they changed that in steps: First year the trucks, the second year the smaller cars.

Strange thing is, I have a feeling I've never seen a Swedish car (Saab, Scania, Volvo...) with the steering wheel on the right.

Come to New Zealand, they're everywhere. Volvo are quite popular here and Saabs used to be until GM shot them in the face and left the dismembered corpse in a field.

Scanias are everywhere as well because we don't believe in rail in New Zealand.

All of them right-hand drive.

Palef, thanks for the information. They apparently build them for left side market.

What I meant, I can't remember having seen them when Sweden still was left-handed, or rather during the decade after that. However hundreds of thousands Finns moved to Sweden during the 60's and 70's to work in the automobile industry, visiting their poor relatives during summer holidays driving their Volvos.

Shuff,I'm both handed,I do some things right handed and some left!  I shoot a rifle lefty and a pistol righthanded by nature,I can switch hands for both but instinct causes me to use them as stated.

I play pool left, bat right shoot a puck with a right handed shot and throw a ball left. I use tools with both hands depending on the task and never can tell my left from right unless I think about it,I actually have to think which hand I throw with to know for sure which is which.

Good thing I know which way is up!!  :noid

You certainly live up to your name!

Can't tell about the left turns, but there's a historical reason for getting on a horse on the left side: Back in the time people wore swords they were carried on the left side and would have been in the way should the horseman be on the right side. That tradition then carried on to two-wheel rides which also have the stand on the left side.

For the driver sitting on the left the reason might be that it's easier to keep on the track sitting near the center line. That would explain why the Brits have their steering wheel on the right side.

Now you've got me thinking about this so I can't sleep!  :furious

99% of Horse's don't kick on the left side - the right rear foot is the most dangerous so you do most of your work on the left side of the horse (walking him, grooming him, putting on the saddle, etc.)  Two people walking horses in opposite directions down a road are going to have to pass each other on the RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD so that their horse's don't kick out at each other.
