GTX 1060? Which one, and why??
« on: June 03, 2017, 02:27:23 PM »
Am looking to upgrade Graphics card in the hopes that it will stop the screen freezes.

I have settled on the GTX 1060 as a trade off between performance and cost, but when it comes down to trying to pick which one, "I feel like a pig looking at a wristwatch!" :bhead

So I ask any of you that have purchased/installed a GTX 1060:

- Which manufacturer would you suggest/shy away from?

- 6Gig or 3 Gig?

- Founders Model?

- Other things I haven't realized I should care about?

Thanks in advance,

Rodent57

Post your Dxdiag..... the first third.

If you are using the DX11 version of the game a new card won't fix the screen freezes. Try the DX9 version first. Its much cheaper.

Skuzzy has combed through the DxDIAG for me.

I'll try Dx9 ver, but it was a bigger offender than Dx11 ver last time I compared.

Appreciate the attempt to save me cash.

The dxdiag would be helpful to determine what would balance well with your current system.

I'd get the 6gig version.

I'd get the 6gig version.

Agree here although I believe someone said that 3GB will run it pretty well if cost is a factor.

Edit in: Here's the thread where we discussed 970/1060 and 3GB/6GB.

I have the MSI 1060 3gb and run the game with everything maxed out.  With shadows and reflection I'm running 40-60 frames, without 55-60.

I also have I7-6700 and 16 RAM.

No complaints.

Stay away from the "Founders Edition". They were the original and the newer ones are considerably upgraded, better cooling and overclock etc.

6GB over 3GB for longevity.
If they offer a 'backplane' it's worth a few dollars more.
Easy in-game again.

I have the MSI Gamer 6GB version. I'm a big fan of the MSI coolers. I'm a few months in and am really happy with it.

EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 SC GAMING, ACX 2.0 (Single Fan), 06G-P4-6163-KR, 6GB GDDR5

Bought this one because it will run with my 400W power supply.  Very happy with it.

I've got a 3 GB one because they are significantly cheaper.

I just got an EVGA GTX 1060 from Newegg for about $175 (or $155 with the $20 rebate).

It will do everything maxed out (all sliders, all settings, including environment map slider) and keep 60 fps flying around an airbase offline.

Concur.  I get 60 fps without breaking a sweat.
