Jeez.  I was just looking at prices for 1060 cards.  They are 30% more expensive now than when I bought mine two months ago.

I can't remember the last time I saw computer equipment go up in price substantially over time instead of down.

It is due to demand from bit coin mining.  The demand has gotten to the point where NVidia and AMD are coming out with cards dedicated to mining.

Just a bit of trivia.  It currently takes about 165 Kw of electricity to mine one bit coin.

kWh perhaps?  kW is power (a rate, not a quantity), not energy - like saying it takes 60mph to get from Dallas to Austin.

A kWh costs $.12 on average in the US, so that would be a bit less than $20 per bit coin.

My 1060 is almost 40% more than I paid for it back in Oct.  Here's a link to a brief article that explains the cryptocurrency thing:   http://blog.logicalincrements.com/2017/07/gpu-pricing-and-stock-shortage/

Good news is, it looks like Ethereum is crashing so the video cards pricing should get back in line soon.

I use a 1060 6Gb card with a new 144 Hz monitor. Game runs FLAWLESSLY.
