Shift X Pitch AND Roll
« on: June 12, 2017, 04:17:16 PM »
Currently Shift X levels wings and holds pitch.  I would like to see Shift X maintain pitch AND ROLLvalues when the command is input.

Any chance?

I thought you did that with the Trim Set key "."

I believe that sets your current trim setup as the default next time you disable combat trim in any aircraft you are in.

I have my pitch set to an analog wheel on my fighter stick base and the aileron and rudder as digital. That way for most aircraft I fly, the pitch for 350mph+ is pretty much there after setting it from watching combat trim at higher speeds. While the moment I turn off combat trim entering into 350 I'm set. A few planes above 350 need me to toggle combat trim for a moment to gain the higher speed trim adjustments for ailerons and possible the rudder. The analog wheel for pitch allows me to get my nose up in those fighters we have that are so famous for their lockups and lawndarting in a dive.

The pony and 262 both need an almost neutral pitch, the spits need just below the lower notch, while the Fw\109 needs just above the lower notch and everything else somewhere close to that notch. Having pitch on the wheel allows the minor adjustments between rides with combat trim off while I climb out. Unless you simply like adjusting trim, using combat trim to auto set trim at high speeds, then disabling combat trim helps you maintain your high end speed longer because combat trim is not inputing corrections causing drag. And at low speeds furballing on the deck, it's easier to let combat trim keep your nose out of the dirt.

After 15 years of flying fighters in this game, I got tired of combat trim slowing down my high end speed when I dove after something DDing out of the area. And futzing with manual trim at low speed while all I wanted to do was shoot the red guy in front of me. Now there was that trick in the K4 of setting your pitch to full up to gain an instantaneous up when someone was on your tail by toggling off combat trim. Don't see that much anymore.....

I don't know about combat trim, I just want this feature so I can hold over a certain area hands off and possibly go afk for a few.

Don't we all. I think that is why you get Ctrl_X and then take your chances like the rest of us have since I can remember. I know no one who has not lost a ride or two from having to go AFK and leave their ride on auto pilot.

I will wait without bated breath to see if Hitech wants to give you something like this so you can go AFK for what ever reason. If you do some way back searching on Hitech's responses to wishes, presenting them as a boon to the community tends to sell better than you want it so you can go AFK for a bit.

In all fairness it's not an unrealistic request.  Role mode is arguably the most basic function found on all autopilots.

Just for completeness, I'm going to step in for all the other nay-sayers out there and say autopilot's in WW2 fighters is unrealistic and shouldn't be there.

Just kidding.  Personally, I'm surprised there's not an attitude hold for completeness, but eh, I don't find it that critical.  Yeah, it would be a nice to have, but I think I've only ever wanted it once or twice.

You want the Trim Set command as Bustr mentioned above. It's mapped to the period key "." by default.

I believe it just sets the control surfaces in their current position, within limits, so you can release the stick, altitude hold is not included.
